Well too bad says the gun shop. Apparantly its not coming in till december, its not them but the supplier and they're following it up.

The rifle is a Savage FLCP-K in .308
Now i dont want to wait till december for one, and this brings me to the problem: if it wont arrive till December, what should i get them to order in instead?

I originally consider a Remmy SPS Varmint Lefthand.
However i heard remmy quality went down the drain, plus i'd have to add a new trigger and bottom metal to it to make it as user friendly a the Sav.

SO, any suggestions people. Im looking to spend similar though i'll go up a couple of hundred on the price of the Savage. I'd like .308 though i will accept others.
Also, must be a Lefty, must be a bolt action.

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

Get any other model 10 fcp, fp, or PC that you can get in a lefty. They all drive tacks or have the potential to. Or get a regular fcp-k And find a left-hand receiver and bolt handle. You can try northland shooters supply or savage factory direct.

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

Theres the M10 FLV thats available in LH but thats it. And it doesnt come in .308 which is a bit of a bummer because ammo is dick expensive down here in Oz and .308 is 'relatively' cheap.

I wouldnt mind getting a 10 PC however the isse would be finding a Sav LH action and bolt, id have to get it in from the same mob that imports the FLCP so the wait time would be just as long. 2nd Hand is difficult as Savage rifles arent as popular down in Oz.

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

This begs the question... Are you left-handed?... Or do you just want a left-handed rifle? If you're left-handed it's actually an advantage to shoot a right-handed rifle from a "repeatability" standpoint since you can manipulate the bolt without moving your trigger-hand. Just a thought...

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

I have used RH rifles and obviously own some and whilst i do manipulate the bolt with my Right hand i often anchor the butt with both a bag and my non-shooting hand. I find it easier on my LH Ruger to keep the point of impact when i anchor the butt and use my master hand to manipulate the bolt.

Plus it's my rifle. And being a lefty it kinda wouldnt feel complete without a Left-Hand bolt.

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

I definitely feel your pain. I'm a lefty in most things and shot lefty all my life until I was trained to shoot equally well with both hands. Back then I wanted a left handed bolt gun but they were harder to find and more expensive and you had to wait. (Kinda like what you're experiencing now) Now I shoot righty almost exclusively but that's because I'm cross-eye dominant. That is, I'm mostly left handed but right eye dominant. If I were left eye dominant I'd probably be in the same boat.

But I did almost buy a left handed rifle recently. Intending to shoot it right handed...

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

Wow, that thing has a 24" barrel? You don't need that or the big brake. I would look at a different model. I would get the basic 20" model and save up for a decent stock.

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

The brake and the extra barrel length are nice. The brake is definitely not necessary, but the extra length and muzzle velocity that comes with it makes longer range shots(1k plus) a little easier...

I see no need for more than 22" with .308 for most applications. The extra barrel and brake just add length and weight.

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

You guys are missing his problem. He can't just order one, it must be imported.
Remoah, fill out your profile a bit so people can tell you are on the other side of the world!

Is getting a new barrel as difficult?
Could you order a Savage classic in .308, order a quality barrel and swap it yourself?
Of course, now you are talking money here, 300 for the barrel before shipping, the go gauge and the tools if you don't already have them.
If you have a regular bech vise, you can cut your own wood blocks, then you would only need a nut wrench.

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

If your profile were filled out, you would get more expeditious info, since most missed the fact that you are in Austrlia.

-oops, fdkay already said that huh?

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

Hey guys. Apologies, yes, i live in Oz which means the Sav has to be ordered in and whilst i can order it from someone else and perform the transfer via the Firearms Shop it's a massive hassle to do so, especially for a brand new rifle.

Anyhow.
I talked to them today and the Savage wont arrive until November 20th. They DID however call up Beretta who supply the Tikka T3 and they had 2 T3 Varmint LH rifles in .308 waiting to be shipped. So for maybe $100 more i picked up the Tikka which will arrive on Friday.

We already own one T3 Lite but havent shot it yet. The bloke down the road also owns a T3 Hunter and is extremely pleased with its accuracy and performance.

Cheers for all the help guys. Looks like Savage lost my vote when it comes to these things. Im not waiting until November to get a gun i need by the end of september.

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

I know its not a .308 but theres a L/H SS Tikka Varmint synthetic in .270 and its twin in .300WM on usedguns at the moment, both Lefties and both set up good to go, for a good price.

Have a look, they may fill the gap unless your locked onto .308

cheers,

JJ

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

I already have a 30-06 which is close enough to a .270 in my books. I did want a .308 mainly because i dont reload yet and the ammo is cheap and forgiving ballistics wise.

But cheers mate, i did take a look and im a big fan of the usedguns website and i often keep my eye on it.

EDIT.
Im going to order an EGW rail for the T3 sometime this week.
Just want to know if the EGW HD Tactical scope rings are any good because i'll order a set with the Rail. Has anyone had any work with them? Because they look fairly decent on paper.

Cheers Guys.

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

Out of interest, did you try some of the large intersate shops? There are a few in QLD which are reasonably large and often have stock in.
I got the last m10pc in .223 from the last shipment. Took 1 month longer to arrive than I was quoted but at least I got it. Next one would have been a long way away like you have found. My understanding is that there are a few guys who send stuff over at a reasonable price. Which is likely to be my next option.

The EGW rings were supposed to be quite ok from what I understand. I use the Warne QD's. Cheap and go back well within a MOA. Good for those of us who shoot in any conditions. Many of us buy EVERYTHING we can from OS now due to the local support problems and prices.

The Tikka is a good choice. The EGW Tactical rings are very well built & will work well on your new rifle. Enjoy!

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

Aaah queensland firearms shops are the best when it comes to some of the stuff they have. Alot of it though still comes from the big guys like Nioa and Raytrade so the prices are the same... ish.

Cheers guys. I'm looking into them and Seekins. if i can get them down here that is. I know i can get EGW which would be awesome.

Re: Oh Hello... would you like your rifle this month?

Well a little update guys.

The T3 came today but the permit didnt. Fucked if im ever going to trust those guys at the shop to look 1 inch beyond thier noses without me telling them too.

Anyhow, permit should be in by the end of next week. And picking up the Seekins rings tomorrow. All i need is the base.
