Rifle Scopes Older Leupy MK4's...

Re: Older Leupy MK4's...

Yes and yes. They are considered an old design because the turrets and reticles do not match. However, they have good glass and provide rock solid dependability, I've shot with a few 10X's and liked them. It all depends on the price, whether they're worth it or not.

I also have a 16 year old Mk4 M1 16X with a duplex reticle that works great.
That said, I would like a illumated reticle and more power and will give the S&B 5-25 a try if & when they get here with the MSR reticle

Re: Older Leupy MK4's...

+1 to the comments above. Actually, the older Mk4 scopes are arguably better than some of the newer offerings. The fixed power scopes are definitely worth owning. I have a fixed 10x that I got back in the mid-90s and it has been a faithful performer since day one with zero problems (knock on wood) to date.

Re: Older Leupy MK4's...

I have never personally seen or heard of a fixed mk4 failure. They are in no way similar to the variable rebaged vx3's.They are very very good scopes.Outdated or not they work.

Re: Older Leupy MK4's...

Being a fixed power they have plenty of elevation adjustment range and are FFP. I know Leu can swap out the reticle for me but can't put in an illumated reticle. I got spoiled using an illumated reticle while bear hunting, without it I never would have been able to see my reticle on that black fur at last light.

Re: Older Leupy MK4's...

I have a MK4 M1 10X Fixed Power that I bought used about 5 years ago. It didn't have a mark on it and I paid around $800 for it. I have found it to be very simple and very dependable. I haven't shot it beyond 500 yards but at ranges out to 500 hundred it has kept the same zero it had the day I sighted it in and the glass is excellent. Took it out the other day and for grins put up a silhouette at 500 yards. I dialed up my previous 500 yard setting, doped the wind and made the windage adjustment. Fired one round, cold bore, at the head. Couldn't find the bullet due to a bit of mirage but the trace had looked good so I fired another round at a six inch steel plate at 500 to check the zero. The round impacted the plate dead center. Fired one more round at a 3 inch steel plate at 500. The bullet impacted the plate 1 inch high at 12 o'clock. Set the scope back to 100 yards and fired one round which impacted the bull dead center. My point is that in the 5 years I have owned the scope this is the performance I have gotten from it every time I have used it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. BTW when we went down range to check targets and repaint the steel plates, we looked at the silhouette and there was a .308 hole centered up on the head.
