I loaded some 208 Amax in my 300 wm. Cycled a few to test them. They fit snug. Examined them and found ogive marks on just one side of the bullet consistently. what have I messed up on this time?
Thx Merry Christmas.
And be sure you're not mistaking marks left from feeding from the magazine for rifling marks...some guns will scar the bullet as it moves forward and starts up out of the magazine during feeding.
Whoever chambered the rifle could have busted some of the lands off one side or cut it crooked with a throating reamer. Pecker head that chambered my 300 Wm did that to me.
If it is leaving marks and in a Remington or clone, it is from the ejector letting it ride the chamber on the way back out. Take out the ejector and the problem will go away. No conern if that fixes it.
Did they come out of the die that way? When I first started loading rifle on an RCBS press I had to shim the die and /or shell holder to get proper alignment. Would leave a mark on the side of the bullet and have excessive runout. Just thought I'd mention it.
