I understand a 1x low end is desirable for cqm but the more I research, the more outdated it seems to me... Even true 1x on a high end scope is still not holographic, so you're still making a compromise with your shot, and the whole 1-,4,6,8 thing is just unwieldy... It's got the ergonomic disadvantages of a high power scope without the high power. There are many canted mounting solutions out there that are reliable and low profile Why not just got for a fixed power optic and a canted reflex sight or irons? I'm not familiar with that many cqm doctrines with lasers but when I shoot with lasers I cant my gun so I can keep a cheek weld while looking past the optic. It translates to kind of a canted shooting position when I reflexively fire through my optic just out of habit and the way my buttstock fits around armor. Does anyone else experience that? A canted reflex sight would have the advantage for me of having a co witnessed aiming point day or night. The whole magnifier eotech/aimpoint thing seems silly to me too for the same reason... All the disadvantages of a high power scope without the high power. Just wanted to hear some opinions. I own a 1-4 power scope I originally bought for there's gun but I think I might be transitioning to a fixed 4 or 6 power and canted irons.

Don't wear armor but I have no problem with a true 1x low end. I actually like it alot in my Vortex Razor 1-6x. I use it for 3 gun and the scope works great on low power for quick close shots and then I can dial up for farther shots and have the powers in between if needed. I find the red dot 1x to be faster than a side iron set up for anything but inside about 5 yards. Reason being is no lining up of sights. Just put the dot on target and shoot.

Also a side reflex wouldn't be legal in tac optics. You can use side irons and I have a pistol irons set up on my handguard you can see in the pic below but I have only used it a couple times for very close targets.

Post at about 10 yards with the Razor 1-6x on 1x. Huge field of view and clear. Just like a dot scope. Can't speak for other scopes but this one works great on 1x.

I see that the illumination is day visible on the razor, it isn't on my pst. My pst's objective bell started wiggling so I was gonna send it back and maybe try to upgrade to a razor, but I'm considering just getting some sort of fixed optic... I understand dual optics is only allowed in open. I was thinking of mounting something like the xs big dot on 45 degree mounts. Might be faster than a standard peep sight? One thing I do like about the pst is the reticle... I'm not a fan of the razors bdc reticle and I like having the pst reticle in the second focal plane because at 1x it had similar measurements to an eotech reticle. I'll have to research the fixed power market a little, the only scope that comes to mind is the acog and I hate that eye relief. I'll probably pick up those canted irons first and see if I can shoot well with those. And then maybe invest in a canted reflex sight for one of my non 3 gun set ups.

The BDC reticle is actually pretty quick and easy to use in the Razor. I am not a big BDC guy in other higher power optics but in this low power set up it works very well especially with 3 gun style targets. Take a good look at the 1-6 Razor. It's used by ALOT of 3 gun shooters now. See them on many rifles at matches. And if you didn't like the BDC there is always the Mil or MOA reticle option now as well. This is the side sight I have and it works good. They make more expensive ones like the JP model but I didn't want to spend 3 times as much for the amount of use it was going to get. It's just like using pistol sights as I have it mounted at about the same distance my pistol would be if I were using it.

I personally enjoy shooting a true 1x optic, it's quick and it gives you magnification. I would take a 1-4 or a 1-6 over a holographic or red dot and magnifier any day. the canted sites are certainly nice, but having the natural position and point of aim with your primary optic is pretty nice. maybe spend a little more time with it?

I see shooters in 3gun mount a 3-9 or similar scope then mount offset irons for hoser stages and it works for some. I've seen vids of Taran Butler just looking down the side of his scope for close shots. I'm not that good. The more I use true 1x scopes, the more I like them. After seeing my first Razor 1-6 with the daylight visible dot it was all over for me. I'm with Rob on that one. Sell your 1-4 and add some money and get a 1-6 Razor and never look back. Unless you have hours to practice with offset irons you'll never beat the speed of a Razor.

If you look hard enough you'll find some new Razors for $1200 range.
