Looking at the Ops Inc 15th and 16th models. I was thinking the 15th model to go on my 18 inch SPR and 12.5 inch carbine. After speaking with Ron today, he may have me talked into a 16th model. He claims that it is "significantly" quieter, obviously do to it's extra 1 1/2 length and added 3 oz.

Has anyone had a chance to compare these two side by side? Is the extra db reduction worth the extra length/ weight?

Thanks

Re: Ops Inc 15th and 16th

All I know is that I have a 12th model and it pretty much owns all other 223 suppressors I've compared it to.

Why not get a 12th for the SPR and then a 15th for the SBR?

Re: Ops Inc 15th and 16th

I'm being told that the 14th, 15th, and 16th all share the same mounting system. The 12th and the 16th have the same internal baffles so they should be very close in performance. I can only do one can this year, so like many others, I am trying to get one can for multi weapons

Thanks Witch Dr.

One thing I am contemplated is getting the 16th and using it on both for now, and maybe getting the 14th later down the road for my carbine, or whatever other lightweight model they may develop by then. I don't see Ops changing mounts any time soon, their mounts seem to be pretty rock solid. That is kind of what is drawing me to an Ops Inc can right now.

Re: Ops Inc 15th and 16th

I own a few Ops Inc products and love them all. Really great products. Made very well, extremely quiet (with a unique tone!) and the mounting system is solid.

The two in front here are 16th Models.

The slight added weight of the 16th compared to the 15th does not bother me at all. I much preferred the extra sound reduction of the 16th compared to the 15th. I don't own a 15th but have shot one a friend owns on several occasions.

If you want a "SPR" type setup, some barrel makers like White Oak Armory will custom make you a barrel contoured for the 16th. The normal contour for their SPR barrels is setup for a 12th.

My 12th Model is a .30-cal but I've got a lot of time on 5.56 versions of the 12th. While quieter than the 16th, I just felt for me the 16th was right for all my applications, which does include some shorter barrel, lighter setups. I know it might sound weird but the difference between the 12th and 16th compared to how the 16th felt against the 15th was great. Does that make sense at all? Bottom line the 16th was the "sweet spot" for my uses.

You'll love whichever model you end up getting. Ops Inc is wonderful stuff. Ron Allen is GREAT people.

Re: Ops Inc 15th and 16th

The 16th would be a great choice if you were to do 1 suppressor. You would have to get a extended adapter to fit a 16th on a 18 SPR profiled barrel. The 16th isn't that much shorter then the 12th and it has the same mounting system as all the other 556 Ops Inc suppressors. I have both the 12th and 16th and have been very pleased with both. I also have a M4S that gets some time with the 16th on my 11.5" SBR.

Re: Ops Inc 15th and 16th

I have two 12th models in 30 cal and they are awesome. I highly recommend them. A buddy I shoot with has the 12th model in 223 and its money on the MK12 Mod1 he has built. They are the most quiet 223 can I have heard to date.

Big thumbs up for OPS INC

Re: Ops Inc 15th and 16th

How much available barrel length do I need behind the muzzle for the collar before the rail starts? Will 3 inches of barrel from the muzzle to the end of the rail be enough?

Re: Ops Inc 15th and 16th

According to people I know who have experience with all of the OPS lineup, the 14th and 15th sound nearly the same, and the 12th and 16th are also indistinguishable. So that makes the 15th pretty silly as an option. Better to get a 14th or 16th--maybe even both.
