I a question for the gunsmiths who read this forum about oredering a new barrel. If it matters it will be for a Surgeon reciever in caliber 6.5x47Lapua. I want the finished lenth to be 24 inches from the reciever face to the end of the barrel. How long should the barrel be? How much is cut off when a barrel is chambered, threaded and crowned?

When you call you'll need to know.

Caliber
Twist
Desired Finish Length
Contour
Fluted or Not
SS or CM depending on who you're ordering from

Re: Ordering a new barrel questions

Generally the unchambered blank length for a 24" finished would be 1.5-2" longer..Blank would likely be 26" long to start out.
