Phoenix Custom Rifles lead times and services

Havent been to La Precision yet. Ive emailed him a few times. SInce your in Louisiana you should swing up here and shoot. I have my own range that can reach 800yds.

Aren't you just above Alexandria, near Indian Creek Res.? Would love to shoot out to 800. I'll give you a shout when I get my rifle back from Brad in a month or so -- hopefully it would have dried up by then. BTW, I changed my build specs from a true Rem 700 in .308 to trued Rem 700 in 6.5 Creedmoor, 24 inch, 1:8 twist with Badger thruster ... should get out to 800 yards. Hope my old eyes will. I'm a former Marine grunt (Vietnam 1969-70) but can still shoot.

What is your Win 70 project going to be?

Just waiting on bottom metal. Should be soon. Its been quite a while. Im just south of Alexandria. I have 2 buddies that are Marines who come over and shoot quite often. We will be shooting again in a couple weeks. Ill PM you with my info.

Brad you guys make it tough on a guy wanting to cerakote a rifle every time I look on here I find a color I like better than the last one. Keep up the good work

Tony

Here is something a little different!

...let me explain

A local shooter brought me an A3 with a basic inlet which means that the top only was inlet for SA M700 and barrel channel.

We inlet the mag well, trigger well, bottom for Badger M5, ejection port, handle cut out and filled in some of the barrel channel that had a large gap in the cylinder area because it was inlet for a larger and longer cylinder than his rifle. Installed 3 studs and a 1" recoil pad.

He had a barreled action that he had setback himself which was coated in "C" series Sniper grey and had visible scuff and wear marks. He wanted us to spray over the scuff marks to cover them up and we came up with the idea to do this instead. We added Armour black and Tactical Grey in "C" series in a camo pattern over his Sniper Grey and this is how it turned out.

Let me know what you think.

Brad, you told me last week that my rifle was coming up next ... this photo is giving me some thoughts. We need to talk this week. Maybe staying with the basic black is correct path, but this is definitely thought provoking, though I do have a bit of green in my A5 stock.

I'm sure it's coming. Waited awhile for this one.

Waiting for another Manners stock now to ship for another build. So I'll have another wait while I work on loads for this one.

It happens.

I'm doing more than a rebarrel and less than a full build with them, so quoting a specific time for me was a little difficult. They seem to be doing very well with keeping up with estimated timeframes, though, and i was quoted 2-3 months(they invoiced me around Jan 22-25). In my mind, that means 4 months is quite acceptable (cuz shit happens) and anything in between 2-3 months would be awesome. If i get it anytime this month i would be ecstatic. This is my first rifle to be custom chambered with a match barrel so i guess I'm a little excited!

I'm in the same boat. Dropped of the parts end of Jan. Was told 4-5 months. They started my build yesterday. Just need to drop off a dummy round for them to check the throat depth.

Lucky you. Full build? If they started on yours yesterday they should be starting on mine very soon.

Be sure to post pics. Think I'm gonna stick with what i know and have them do a build on a 110 action for a 338 lapua if i like what i see with my 260 rebarrel. I was eyeing the group buy going on but I'm not interested in a crash course on Remingtons and most of the services they are offering are comparable to PCR. Rather support my local gunsmith...

The 6.5 Creedmoor with desert camo is mine and on its way. Thanks Brad and Keith for great experience. Will post more when I get my anxious fingers and eyes on it.

GentleBen. That is a kick ass rifle you got there! Post up some load data when you get to that. Mine will have the same exact barrel as yours.

Picked my rifle up today. Looks awesome. Will get pics up later and hopefully a range report.

Here's some .308's that are finished and ready to ship.

Thanks for looking.

Hey all,

PCR did some work for me, including bolt knob, brake and Shilen trigger install. Excellent work, great guys to work with. Highly recommended, so if you are reading this thread wondering if you should go with them, do it! Have a buddy getting a full rifle built by them now on a Defiance action, can't wait to see it.

Here are pics of the work they did for me. I've had several people ask if the barrel was made like that and love telling them its a thread on brake. good stuff. for added impressiveness, consider that my rifle was already cerakoted, so they had to color match everything.

Do you guys ship with groups/targets included?

We used to but haven't in quite a while because of the time and added expense involved with slave scope system, gas, range fee, premium ammo. The closest range is an hour away and was half a day to go shoot test groups for only 1 rifle at times.

how are you guys doing your etching work on the barrel?

Electrochemical marking. We have stencils made that allow an electrolyte which is a conductive medium to pass through the stencil and etch the barrel using electrical current.

Brad sent me some pics of my barreled action fresh out of cerakote. I'm stoked!
For those of you that know savage, this action came off an fcp-k. Notice anything different???
Krieger heavy ass barrel - 8.5 twist chambered in 260 Remington. APA little Jimmy brake. My own bolt knob...

You lost your nut!! Haha the rifle looks great!

You lost your nut!! Haha the rifle looks great!

Is that your guess as to what's different? Well, you're right, but that's not the kicker. You REALLY have to know your savages, particularly differences between various models, to see what's different about this action compared to a standard fcp-k action.

Is that a spacer in front of your BAS bolt for the bolt lift kit? Seems like it it sticking out farther than normal.

I used the thrust bearing option. It adds about .160 to the cocking assembly. Instead of trimming down the cocking piece pin sleeve i opted to make a spacer bushing.
If nobody knows what's radically different about this fcp-k action (clue-same action as most other accustock models) I'll carry the guessing game over to my own thread. Don't want to hijack Brad n Kieth's awesome thread...

I'll tell you all right now that these pictures don't do these works of art justice! I just picked my barreled action up them today and they had that A5 rifle sitting on the bench. Whoever that rifle belongs to - I'M JEALOUS!!!
I took my barreled action home and mocked it up in my stock and I'm loving it - thanks Kieth and Brad!

Oh, what a beauty and a dream to shoot.

My 6.5 Creedmoor with Rock cut barrel and an ATACR on top performed better then expected.

It would be vulgar for me to actually describe it in words. Pure poetic rifle porn.

Brad and Keith are becoming the new masters on the block.

Only got to shoot commercial Hornady 120 gr first time out, now getting ready a big batch of hand-loaded 100s, 108s, 120s, 123s and 140s for a day-long range orgy next week.

I will have mine back on Wednesday. Will have a report later in the weekend on how it shoots! I have 80 factory 140gr amax loads to shoot then ill start load development. Can't hardly contain myself waiting for it haha!

What does Hornady list on the 140gr box label as far as powder type, weight and muzzle velocity? Would appreciate the tip. I've never seen those 140gr boxes.

Labels on boxes of Hornady 120gr listed 39.0 grains of Varget, Fed 210M primers, resulting in a mv of 2,910 fps. But I found them a good bit hotter and was chrono-ing above 3,000 fps. I intend to load my 120s and 123s with Varget at 38.0 and 38.5.
