Were working on a proposal today for the new Sturgis Radio Controlled airplane air park. Meeting with the city in a week and I have to make a big poster thingy showing what we want to do.

My photoshop skills can be summed into one word: Crap!

If anyone here would take pity on my soul and help me out I'd be grateful.

605.490.2561 is my cell and I'll be here all day.

    Thanks.

Good luck, most of the R/C air parks I know if are away from everything ..... people think its a good idea at first then they hear the whine of the motors all day and they start complaining.

Best of luck in your endeavor, I wish I could help more.

Why not a Power Point presentation?

    Good Luck!!!

Seems like I went through this 200 years ago, starting up a club on a SAC base. All the commanders on base were against us except one. Had a meeting with all these colonels sitting around a table when the DCM (Deputy Commander of Maintenance) walks in, announced to the crowd that the club is a done deal. We're all here to figure out how to make it happen! Meeting was smooth sailing after that...

In our case I think we'll be ok. Were out of city limits for the most part and the city councel/city manager has been very supportive. Last summer they hosted a public safety fair and I was out with my 100cc Edge 540 hovering on a city street behind the community center. We got the AMA insurance/event coverage and it was good to go. Had a really awesome time and the locals were really diggin it.

This is (if we get it) a marquee location. 1000' foot runway and we'll have the turbine waiver (only one in the state of SD) and I'm working with the USRA for giant scale pylon racing events. (240+mph (actual) and 30G's in a corner is a site to behold!) They don't have a footprint in the upper midwest and Sturgis is all about loud engines and hot rods anyway.

We've been working at this for 3 years now. The potential to make it cool is pretty huge. Plus its a good way to supplement the votec programs the school already has. Not everyone wants to be a quarterback. (besides, our HS football team sucks ass anyway-always has)

We'll see. We've got the school of mines up here too and they have some pretty serious aviation projects. Be a good facility for them as well.

Power point can work too. I just need the damn image chopped up so that it looks right.

I could lend a helping hand ... however, it might be easier to easier to send the file to me instead of explaining it over the phone.

Here's the image I need tuned up:

This is a Google Earth SAT pic of the location. It's the open field north of hwy 79 and west of the highschool (the big cluster of buildings east of the road running N/S.)

This is what we'd like stitched into the SAT image. The runway needs to be stretched out to 1000'x75' running pretty much E/W. The prevailing winds actually come in from about 10 O clock and run to 4 O clock so that'd be the actual orientation of the strip when we pave it.

Here is the link to the source for the photo:

The "furniture" with the covered pits, parking, would need to be appropriately scaled as well. In the SAT photo the two buildings in the upper right corner of the property (west of the road/highschool) will go with this property. One will be a clubhouse and the other will be renovated into a hangar for overnight/long term storage of the big planes. One of the attractions with the big events is avoiding having to tear planes down at night. A secure location is a real plus.

All we are primarily interested in at this point is the airplane portion. As time/funds allow we'd look at developing the RC car/boat section.

Basically we just need the runway stretched, the pit locations included, the parking and the two buildings annotated as being a clubhouse and storage facility.

It'll be set up with about 300' of stand off from the highway with the pilots facing to the north. The parking area and pits will be on the south side of the field. This mitigates the risk of planes over the highway because flying over the pits is a big "no no". We've actually got a line on two actual full size mothballed fighters (F-4E phantom and an A-4) to go on static display at the entrance to the park. Now how cool is that?!

I don't have anything yet on the location of power/water but it's coming. That's not a big concern at this point in the game.

    Any help is really appreciated.

You don't do things half-azed do you?

Where do ya find funding for a project like that?

Man things have changed over the years. I started flying RC's back in the late 70's. One quarter scales were in their infancy...

The location is perfect as it's almost exactly between town and all the riff raff stuff that goes on during the big Bike Rally here out at the Full Throttle, Buffalo Chip, etc. The plan is to get RV/Camping sites set up on the back 40. This will generate the dollars needed to develop the club. It's a long term goal that will hopefully one day develop into the club hosting large scale events that pull people from out of state. Similar to the big "Jo Noll" event out on the east coast.

The RC hobby accounts for several billion a year. What used to be a "closet" pastime for geeks has kinda grown out of control with the introduction of gasoline 2 strokes. Cheap to buy, cheap to run, and you don't have all the slimy mess that nitro makes. Were all still geeks mind you (this stuff won't get you laid) but it sure beats sitting at a bar all night.

Idle hands are the devil's workshop ya' know?
