F T/R Competition Plantation 300 Yard match results. Sat. 1/28/12

The annual Wes Hall 300 yard registered match was held today at the Plantation Rifle Range in Bellingham and we had a wonderful turnout.

Wes was a local shooter who passed on a few years ago. He used to smoke a pipe and was the nicest guy. Gary Rasmussen started the Wes Hall memorial match in his honor and the match winner gets a small medallion with a pipe on it.

29 shooters of which 12 were match rifles, 2 service rifles, 5 F-Open and 10 F-T/R shooters. The weather was very cooperative for the most part with very little wind except for a few small switches and gusts. It was COLD! As always, it seemed like it was 10 or 15 degrees colder than in town. We had bouts of rain and sleet, but overcast all the way. Many new shooters, specially in F-T/R. Good to see the continuous increase in F-Class turnout.

For the match rifle category (iron sights), our amazing Jr. shooter from WA, Brianna Rachinski smoked everyone. She was the only one to shoot a 600 and beat out several veteran shooters. For F-Open, a new shooter and a really nice guy, Rod Hendricks, out shot all the high masters to win the match. Bryce Melvin won the F-T/R.

Wow... some great scores there! I know its 'only' 300yds and kind of a protected one at that... but it can still be kinda squirrelly @ times - at least thats been my excuse in the past

One of these days you need to talk Bryce into shooting someplace else besides just Plantation...

...on second thought, nah. The rest of us are probably better off if he stays put

Not bad for my first high power/f-class shoot (see bottom line F/TR class) Enjoyed it and learned a great deal.

David, nice to meet you up there, about the lop on your Savage, I am sure someone has a great idea for a simple DIY spacer for it.

I had a similar problem with LOP on my O/U trap shotgun and ended up getting a spacer from a company and milling it down to the same dimensions as the stock. Hoping I can find something simliar for my Savage.

Was great to meet people up there yesterday. Everyone seems super friendly and helpful. Plus it was great to be in a competition mode of shooting instead of just having a day at the range.

I too enjoyed my first Highpower match, met some nice folks and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Congrats to Rod, this was his first outing with a Bat action, McM f-class, Benchmark barrel, 6mmbr that I shipped to him in December. Awsome job shooting with some well respected shooters.

How much more LOP is needed? I put a Limbsaver slip-on recoil pad over the factory recoil pad to give me about an extra inch which seems to work well enough for me @ 6'5"...

from the "towel" test I did I came up with about 3/4"
