I like how people will argue against this.

Would be much better than what we have and much closer to what was intended

Agreed, I mentioned this in the other thread that got nuked.

Political service should be like jury duty, a "civic duty" that NO ONE should WANT TO DO, but when selected, you do it, do it quickly, and work your ass off to get OUT OF THE FUCKING JOB.

ETA: Taxes should also be run like a go fund me account. You are obligated to give X% of income, but you get to choose the department, program, where it goes.

Program doesn't get funded? Sorry, get fucked, you dont get to drag us into 27 trillion worth of debt for southeast asian gender studies.

Ok....I cant help it...I detest ignorance and once you've been a turd wrangler, you're always a turd wrangler.
Noone is "dumping" raw sewage ten miles out, except maybe China and India.

That is the effluent outfall. Treated water that should be cleaner than the receiving water is being DISCHARGED, not dumped.

That sludge in a bag wasn't marketed as "soil".
Read the packaging before you buy. All stabilized sludge products are as safe as any other agricultural product if not safer.
All that "stuff" has an odor, so does horse shit and chicken shit that mat be advertised as "all natural" or "organic".

People tickle the shit out of me......pardon the pun.

OK, you went in, I'll go in (a little). I used to specify, sell and commission (start up) VFD's (electric motor drives) into many different industries. One of those industries was "water/wastewater", more affectionately known as Turd Ranches.

I worked with Consulting Engineering firms on the design, specification and application of motor drives in the numerous applications that Turd Ranches have throughout them.

I was told by many different Engineers at different firms that the target ((Warshington)State law) was 50 PPM or less of pollutants contained in the treated effluent (liquids) that were being discharged by any plant in the state. Multiple Engineers told me that with the common technology used in processing of sewage that 3 to 5 PPM was being regularly achieved. As a contrast, they said that drinking water, straight from the tap was about 25, maybe 30 PPM. That was back in the 1990 to 1995 timeframe, so I would think that if anything would have changed, the requirements would have only become more stringent, the technology would have only gotten better and the target numbers would have only come down further.

Assuming that any/all plants are operating within State and Federal guidelines (and I will assume they are), the treated effluent being discharged is much "cleaner" than what comes out of your tap. Yes, I know about "Flint, Michigan" and all that, but I am not addressing that/including that in my response. Also, I have no knowledge about the details of the solids that are seperated from the liquids in the treatment process, so I am not commenting on the solids subject.

The last ranch that I commisioned drives on had a 6 month checkup clause in the contract. I was going through the drives with one of the Engineers and the plant Manager. The subject of the cleanliness of the discharged effluent came up. Both of them parroted the above information. The plant Manger asked me if I wanted to try a sip of the discharged effluent. I passed. Can't remember if he did or not.....

Nope.

There is an outfall and stated in my post sewerage is treated before it gets to the pipe.

The big "Egg" collectors are visible for miles.

As for the effluent being cleaner than tap.....that may be so but I aint drinking it.

I know this is your business so I wont claim greater knowledge.

I do know that the harbor has become a much cleaner place. It amazes me what the waterfront is now like but I wouldnt call Boston the working water front of say a place like LA. Pretty sleepy, probably a few big ships a day, most stay out at Subaru pier dropping off cars.

As far as dumping into the harbor....separation of waste and sewerage is ongoing.

In suburbs its a fact of initial construction.

In town, still a work in progress in some places.

Old brick culverts are either separated or new lines are run.

The govt takes every opportunity to put the screws to private builders when they seek permits......"Replace/Seperate this combined sewer/drain line or you get no permit".

Im pretty confident in my Quabbin water being clean.......we do pay a pretty good buck for it though....$400 plus a quarter.

Still beats being in teh southwest where the decision to build or not is made based on water rights.......you either have them or you dont.

The stuff in the bag was probably marked like this....

Generic, nothing special just wanted to fill some chipmunk holes and the areas where their tunnels settled. Stuff sucked.

You are right I didnt read the ingredients. It was a bag of dirt. Figured someplace you had peeps mixing proper amounts of clay, sand, and organics to make Loam......guess I figured wrong.

Ill agree that hog shit smells worse (no disrespect to the Marine snipers here) as does chicken shit, but read on. Its processed but used.

The Stink About Human Poop As Fertilizer - Modern Farmer

modernfarmer.com/2014/07/stink-human-poop-fertilizer
Jul 17, 2014 · But not all poop ends its life by fire or burial. Some human waste ends up in forests and farm fields as the treated, human-feces-based fertilizer known as biosolids. Find the idea of growing tomatoes with human excrement repulsive? It’s a common response, one that Washington State University soil scientist Craig Cooger finds strange.
My dad use to tell me about the days when his dad and him, use to use human waste on the rice fields in Calif. in the early 50's. IMO, from personal experience, chicken crap is the worst, especially on a 90+ deg. day. All of it smells like SHeeeeeet! Mac

Not sure if serious or trying to put lies out ?

Raw sewage is indeed dumped every time a half inch or more of rain falls. From mexico to Canada. From California to new York.

And I hear a lot of facilities aren’t putting money into more treatment capacity. They are building bigger storage facilities to hold sewage until that magic half inch rain comes.

That is not normal operation. They also pay fines and should have NOVs. This is what happens when political hacks are in charge of important infrastructure

And don't call me a liar.
I could explain the problems, and minutiae, but its boring and only leads to more political discussions of socialism/communism.

As a side note, this happened a few miles away from me while I was at another soft ball facility watching my daughter play. We had similar winds but no flying portajohns. o_O

That's a true definition of a shit or"shitter" storm

Idk what else to call it when someone that acts like they would know says raw sewage is not being dumped.

PA has a school tax that EVERYONE has to pay. Doesn't matter if you have a kid(s) in their school. It's a significant portion of taxes. If they build a new school near you, your taxes go up. Not just a little, it can be a thousand or more. We looked at a home in Dallastown and the taxes were more than double than if we bought one over in Hanover.

That's one of the reasons we haven't moved to PA. Now their politics have prevented me from even looking.

Do I call you a liar, when you make ignorant misleading statements about a trade and industry, in which you possess no frame of reference?

Look. Raw sewage gets spilled. It is not routine to "dump" it. When a system is overloaded with I&I, a hard rain MAY result in a spill.
I can still assure you, you do not know anything about what you are talking about, you are parroting journalistic hit pieces.
The water and wastewater industry,, is a favorite whipping boy of the MSM.
I can assure you, an operator will go to jail for "dumping" shit....and do.

Oh but I do.

My industry gets blamed for the environmental damage your industry causes.

Billions of gallons of raw sewage gets discharged with a collective meh from .gov and the citizens.

A dairy farmer spills 500 gallons and it’s a catastrophe akin to a superfund site.

The sewage spills are pretty routine

Hey. Dont blame me. Im on your side believe it or not.
I didn't create the regs on farmers.

It's not me who licked the red off your candy.
Again. This isn't anyone's fault except politicians, busy bodies, and muckrakers.

i am sure chicken and pork production is horrifying in some cases.
i have tried to force myself not to think about it because i don't think i can do anything about it in a significant way.
i swear there ain't no heaven but i pray there ain't no hell.

Never work in the kitchen of your favorite restaurant either. You don't want to know what happens to your food until it's on your table. My dad was a butcher early in life and he talked about the condition of some of the livestock he saw. They were told to butcher it and let the store decide if it wanted to sell it. Cancer sores, rotting flesh, you name it, he saw it.

Maybe it's better now, but in the 60's it wasn't pretty.

Well I guess we've gone full circle with this thread. But I'm surprised it too 700 posts for the Portajohn thread to revert to this.

Yes I fucking get it. I never indicated in my post I thought shit was being pumped into the ocean. I specifically stated "clean state".

The only thing leaving in the outfall pipe is water.

Any solids are in the big eggs.

If the solids were being pumped out to sea than for fuck sakes there would be nothing to put in the fucking plastic bags and sell at Ace Hardware for me to use to fill in chipmunk holes and collapsed tunnels so I understand solids do not leave the effluent pipe or whatever it is called.

Man I wish people defended the voting system as much as they defended shit treatment.
