To a degree you are right, it’s an economic extension of colonialism and I fail to understand why few see this. Federal laws have supremacy over state laws. Similar to the deputy saying he was unaware of the state law yet punished, such an excuse of ignorance to federal law and its supremacy is not a viable excuse.
