Unfortunately I think she is right. People trapped in the welfare system for generations aren't educated, don't have any skills, and don't have the work ethic (ethics in general) to survive on their own even in the freest and most prosperous nation on the planet, and that has been entirely by design starting with "The Great Society". Forcing them to become productive citizens cold turkey by taking away all their free stuff is only going to work for the ones who can adapt. Many or even most won't. We've been feeding a tiger so it doesn't eat us.

Most democrats in big liberal cities will tell you in private that all the welfare programs are to buy off poor black people so they don't try to take their stuff and rob/hurt them. The idea is to just give enough so they never get desperate. Desperation will only make some of them work. The rest will take the easiest way out of stealing.

Not saying I have a great idea to "fix" this, but the reality may not be like you think it do.

Anyone with an iPhone is a "journalist". “I have the natural intention to be and to remain the warm-hearted protector of the German press.” Joseph Goebbels
Used when he introduced the so-called Schriftleitergesetz (Editor’s Law) on October 4, 1933 – a law that fundamentally changed the work of journalists in Germany. The Nazis chose the term “Schriftleiter” to refer to journalists because it sounded more German.

Who fetishizes Nazi Germany and teaches it to grade school kids?

I left Atlanta (very much a Blue city) and moved to rural Georgia - unfortunately, all my stuff was lost in a boat accident on Lake Allatoona before I left Atlanta.

We'd have an 8 to 11 hour drive (depending on the season), just to the Idaho State line. 9-12 hours to somewhere like Mountain Home. Boise would be similar, however priced out property wise.

10.5 - 13.5 to Twin Falls.

Nevada could be an option, however the move drive times would be longer. Then there's the issue of property with reasonable year round water.

THEN there's the career issue. Positions are available, however at a 25-40% salary cut (Idaho). Last we looked. That's with MORE hours (80 hours vs 72 hours). Haven't looked at Salaries for Nevada due to the property/water.

So, logistically, probably 2 trips with a mid/big Uhaul for stuff we wouldn't want movers touching (most movers won't handle firearms/ammo/hazmat anyways). Call that $3,000-$4,000.

Likely $15,000 for commercial move of home stuff.

Likely have to do a rental house, until (if) our home sells. That'd be $2,000-$3,000/month.

Likely have to do a storage until (if) our home sells. That'd be $400-$600/month.

Plus all the "minor" headaches which go along with any move.

Plus the family/life stressors which go along with any move. -Moving can be the biggest life/family/marriage stressors too, so there that.

Long gone are the days of loading up our pickup, maybe a trailer & her SUV then hitting the road...

...All to work more hours at ~25%-40% less salaries? So, we'd have to pick up extra/side jobs for likely a decade to be at where we are salary wise now, today at 72 hours. So a decade of minimal time together/enjoyment of why we originally moved West.

Remember, although Blue (because of PDX to Eugene I5 corridor), Oregon used to be vehemently Pro-2A. We live in the Red part of the State (likely 80% of Oregon counties are Red), we just get overturned/ruled over due to the population density along the I5 up North.

Similar could happen to ANY State (see-Boise)...
