There has to be a common identity or allegiance to something that brings the illuminated together. Certainly huge wealth can be a solid introduction to the group, but in the west at least, I believe allegiance is usually sworn before wealth and power is bestowed. Is it a religion or a certain world view? A certain ethnic group? I lean towards the former.
I worked at Boeing South Carolina as a contractor for a couple of years doing the CNC driller maintenance for mid body assembly. I saw a lot of 3rd party outsourcing with temp workers that could care less. I saw a lot of sketchy stuff get signed off. Boeing SC if very top heavy with a lot of useless management.
