Okay, I bought this case trimmer to use on some once fired Lake city, Black hills and federal brass that I have. The problem is that it seems to be trimming too much bras of the neck, the internal depth is 0.750 is this correct. Also noticed when I started using it that there was a little material that came of the trimmer were the case indexes on the shoulder.
Thanks Marty

Re: Possom hollow case trimmer question

You know you can adjust the inside trimmer to the length of case you want by loosening the small allen right?

Re: Possom hollow case trimmer question

Yes, I realised that, I was just wondering if anyone out there using one on 308 brass, had a similar inside measurement. Our to do I just go trial and error and try for the right lenght.

Re: Possom hollow case trimmer question

I set the trimmer short and trim the case to length by trimming a little and measure ect., once you have your proper length: loosen the allan head and adjust the cutter to the case. check the next few and there you have it. I am no pro, just what has worked for me. Hope this helps.

Re: Possom hollow case trimmer question

I have a 308 and 223. I don't think it takes any off the shoulder, just polishes it a little.
I set mine up by pressing the cutter down on the brass, tighten screw, trim then repeat. Seems to jump .002 each time.

Re: Possom hollow case trimmer question

I'm not sure what you mean by "internal depth", but if you mean measuring from the case mouth to the web across the bottom of the case, this will vary greatly between brands of brass, and within some brands of brass. To correctly measure proper case trim-to length, you measure the OUTSIDE of the case from the case head to the case mouth. Sorry if this was already obvious to you and I misunderstood your question.

Re: Possom hollow case trimmer question

Internal depth of the case trimmer is what I meant, I trimmed some brass using the trimmer and after measuring it on the micrometer it came up short. I just need to properly adjust the trimmer to the correct depth for 2.005 case lenght.

Re: Possom hollow case trimmer question

I used one under power for a quite a while on thousands of pieces of .308 brass and I had one for a 300WM and a .223 also. It's easy to adjust like ftchump said and that's how I always did it.

Re: Possom hollow case trimmer question

Same answer here. I run winchester brass exclusively. So, I full length size each time and then trim when needed. As long as you are feeding it the same thing each time, it should do the same thing. It works off of the shoulder, so if you have it set up to trim once fired brass, and then try to trim some new or sized brass, it will do different.
