I started loading 120 amax for my 6.5L for white tail loads. I normally run 123 scenars.

When I seat the round it seams like the die is creating a slight deformation where it engages the projectile. Its hard to see but you can feel it with your fingers. Seems to squish it in a little. They seem to shoot fine out to 500 yards and are 1/2 moa loads.

Is this due to too much neck tension? Did not have this problem with scenars. Is it worth worrying about so long as they shoot okay? Jim

Actual bullet "tension" comes from the brass itself, not the hole left by the expander. All a too small neck hole can do is increase seating pressure as the bullet has to expand the neck large enough for it to enter. Yes, that high seating pressure increases the probability of the seating punch scoring the bullets. It's unsightly but usually harmless.

You can elimate or at least reduce the scoring by smoothing the sharp edged mouth of the seating stem's bullet cavity. Chuck the stem shank in an electric drill and hold a cone of medium grit black sandpaper against the mouth edge until it's more smoothly rounded.
