I purchased a used Marlin 795 for my 5 year old that I plan to modify to fit her. I need to cut down the stock but, the gun is a going to be a Christmas present (if Dad can wait that long) so I would like to do it without her knowing. Is there a measurement I can take to get me in the ball park of how long the stock should be? She tried a Cricket but it was really small for her and she would surely outgrow it in a year or less. She is a tall kid with long arms for a 5 y.o.

Thanks

Have her stand with her arms hanging naturally at her sides. Then have her bend her arm at the elbow so her forearm is parallel to the floor. Have her curl her finger naturally as if it were resting on a trigger. Measure from the crook of her arm to the curled finger.

That should get you pretty close to her correct length of pull.

Thanks guys. The adjustable looks like too much money and work for a cheap plinker. I can just pick up a take off stock for 30 bucks or so to put on after she gets bigger.
