I posted this in the FTE pic thread, but realized it was more appropriate on it's own:

I've been wondering if there is a prefered way to mount the FTE in relation to the muzzle crown? If you look at the above pic, the muzzle end is slightly recessed into the brake. In later pics by salmonaxe and Saito (in the FTE pic thread) - they have the muzzle end either flush with the inside of the brake wall or slightly extruding into the opening.

Of those three options (recessed, flush, or extruded), is there a preferred way to mount it? I wonder because we all know the shape of the crown is important to the accuracy, so to me the recessed option (like in the pic above) seems like it would almost act as part of the crown. Sorry, if I'm over thinking this. I currently have mine flush to slightly sticking out beyond the brake wall based on the notion that recessed would act as a secondary crown.

Related Q: what do you soak the brake in to clean it?

Re: Proper way to mount a Badger FTE?

I don't think it really matters, more of what is preferred. I prefer mine flush or slightly recessed. I agree on your statement regarding the crown and any brake offers protection in that regard.

As for cleaning the FTE, I remove mine after extended range sessions. I take a small toothbrush soaked in Butch's and give it a very liberal scrubbing.

Hope that sheds some light for ya.

If you follow the print that comes with the brake, it will be recessed. IMO this is a good idea anwyay because of the protection that this offers your crown.
