remember limits on fish and game came in to being after the depression because everybody tried to “live off the land” at the same time….. nearly wiped out the deer in this country……
Market hunters feeding the insatiable taste for wild game in NYC, Chicago, etc and the demand for fur for coats and plumage for hats (world wide) are the major reason for conservation laws in the US.

I was on a camping forum one night reading about how to reduce the noise of generators. Many pages in, late at night, tired, autopilot. I realized that I just read a post where a guy said he buried a pipe underground for his generator exhaust that ran to behind his neighbors house. So the zombies would attack his neighbors. Some things in life can't be categorized.

Anyone who didn't already get moving on this 20 months ago is unlikely to get moving now.

That being said, there may be some spicy new developments appearing over the horizon:

We'd best soon get used to living without a variety of things from China, and whatever eventually brings us to our knees will end up being a surprise to all but very few people (effective a handful of specialists in whatever little component/precursor chemical/foodstock we just can't live without).

For maximum impact, I'd recommend carrying this conversation over to GETTR so that the CCP can more effectively scrape our posts for intel.

If everyone who has a “plan” to take over Costco or Walmart shows up, there won’t be any food in Costco or Walmart.
my post was somewhat tongue in cheek however, our Costco has 75-125 cleared pavement from the front doors in either direction. Notwithstanding there is only one roadway in so you could shut down the area. I also live in New Jermany where many of our cops should get handgun familiarization training prior to quals each year not to mention the overall populace. I'm pretty sure a guy with a bb gun could run that costco hahahahaha

I've had numerous people who come to visit me say... When xxxx happens, I'm coming to stay with you. I always tell them to bring all the food they think they will need to live on, as I won't have enough for them. They look at me as, are you serious? I then follow up with the statement that I have a clear line of fire at least 200-yards looking down my driveway, and if I don't see pizza and beer in hand, there will be no warning shots. They then chuckle, but I'm sure they still wonder what if about the first part?

Honestly, as my good friend says, I'll start to worry when I see (hear) Denver burning. I70 will be a huge parking lot in no time, with people trying to flee the big city. The only people who I would remotely worry about are the tourists that are already here in my AO, and unless it's hunting season, I would guess less than 5% would be armed. If it's Winter time, the roads will no longer be getting plowed if it's a serious crisis, and nobody is moving in my area, and those displaced without food, heat, shelter will be lucky to survive a couple days.

Question for you gents... Neighbor kid, let's say 7-year old little girl knocks on your door saying she's hungry, and asks for food. What do you do. You're fully aware if you give her food, and she tells her parents, family, friends, etc that you gave her some food, then you will have all your neighbors asking for a handout.

My daughter and 5 granddaughters live 2 miles south of me. They're coming here, my wife and i have already prepared for that, Also my 2 grown sons without familes. Both know how to survive. Anybody else shows up? depends. Luckily, i have about 6-10 others in a 2 mile radius who will band together with us, all farmers/ranchers/ex-military. Good group

When the SHTF, the hungry will come in mobs. Ammo and availability of reloads, and a fall back to the fall back to the fallback are are to be considered. Exfil planning is as important as any other planning, as any route overland will be congested and contested.

When people have nothing to lose, and form into mobs/groups, the lowest common denominator will rule the dynamic, and that's survival at any cost, food at any cost.

It's said that civilization is a veil that's only two weeks deep. I think two weeks is optimistic.

We're not 100% prepared here, but we ae headed in that direction.

The city mobs will destroy themselves within 3 weeks of a SHTF situation.
I’m buggin in and planning to hide in plain sight.

The two males need to bring their own, non-related females with them. A pioneering or survival family with no females is NOT a pioneer or survival family. Well illustrated by Heinlein using Lazurus Long.

This last question is so dependent on the situation. Far too much information missing to answer sensibly. Is the situation as in paragraph two? Before I start turning away children, I am going to need to know if she has a family, and of the pirates are next door, and why don't I know that? Anybody at her house still alive? Why is she hungry? Is a sniper waiting for me to present a good target in the door? What?
Fill in the blanks. Far as I'm concerned children are a protected class. They get fed, sheltered, and clothed and protected, within my capability.
If you are actually talking about total end of society situation, If accepted inside, everybody gets fed, and clothed, everybody works, everybody trains, everyday. Even Children. Adults forage. Don't come back from a foraging mission? Too bad.

Found this on social media, it was posted by a Milspec Mojo and also by Joe Kent. Times are definitely getting interestin, thankfully I don’t live in Washington.

Well it's unfortunately become a liberal shithole along with Oregon. The sad part is that most places in both states east of the I-5 corridor are conservative, especially once you get over the Cascades. And good luck to those fricking libtards who try to flee the cities and make it over the passes like I-90 and Highway 2 in a SHTF scenario as both would be ambush bottlenecks. Also everyone I know on the "eastside" where I used to reside are gun owners, farmers, ranchers or tradesmen that know how to grow/build shit and mostly just good people.

Unfortunately my mom and brother and family live on the shithole side. I wanted her out of Ca, bad. She moved to maybe an even worse place. It’s almost like a competition between the left coast states “who can do the dumbest shit”. If things do go crazy in Wa, expect the refugee‘s fleeing south and east to be significant.

I hear you. My wife and I had a place we loved in central WA on the Columbia river but just couldn't stand the politics in the state so we moved back home to Texas. I'm not moving again as like the Alamo, central Texas is my last stand.

only way to correct this nonsense is to use county vote system akin to the electoral college. No way should a city or 2 control the way of life for densely populated areas hundred plus miles away

What if all of my neighbors have literally years of food stocked up in their houses and are also literally dog shit tier when it comes to firearms and knowing how to fight/shoot?

Asking for a friend.

I think the TV show Walking Dead addresses this without a clear answer as well. In the beginning, its simple sorta... the undead are the bad guys the living form up and try to survive. As the show goes on for the years the undead merely become a nuisance and its the living that are or could be the potential enemy to you. we witness a lot of the debased things humans will do to one another, from paying with or trading sex for essential goods, to joining cult communities in hopes of surviving. who can you trust? how can you trust a stranger? How can you trust a community living normally ( but eats people for protein unbeknown to most) . LOL, its a fascinating what if?

Three hundred mile radius. That’s how far a car or truck, fully fueled, can make it on one tank. The city folk, the ones who bug out before the routes are all blocked, are coming to you. Don’t fool yourselves.

have u got trees within 100' of your house? Most people do. the pic above shows that. Are you planning on burning them down? No one's safe, if they can walk from town to your place , they will walk, if they can drive, they'll drive. Unless you live in the middle of the fucking desert, your not safe, and not even then completely. It would be a dog eat dog for the first couple months, hell even your best friend will turn on you if it comes down to your family or his family. Just human nature. We all want to think we will survive, hopefully many do

Its so hard to get people out of the mindset that in a pinch they can pick up a barely shot firearm and effectively use it to defend themselves and their family. This describes the majority of gun owners and it’s completely false, if you don’t train and remain proficient, you will quickly be eliminated. I’ve found IF you can get them to even one training course where they actually have to fight and IF they are capable of seeing reality, they will quickly find out they suck at gun fighting and need more training. At least they are stocking up food, which is more than most people do.

Doom and Gloom...I'm much more worried about the coming climate catastrophes than political/social/virus upheaval. 2020 we had a Derecho here in the middle of Iowa/Illinois with straight line winds of 140 mph and 2" hail. It literally shut shit down and if it had been more widespread (and it will gain frequency and cover larger areas) shit would be hitting the fan for weeks/months.

It's all good and well to be prepared for "whatever comes" but if yer stash gets trashed like happened here in 2020 it will take a lot more than "buy more ammo" and "take it from the Libtards" to survive. Just sayin. We are on the verge, directly in the path, of catastrophic climate change and weather anomalies where yer whole stash and plans are gonna be literally wiped away by massive flooding, direct line winds, horrific temperatures (high or low) ot tornados the likes of which we have not seen nor prepared for.

All well and good to stash food, water, ammo, and have a flawless Plan until it all get scattered across the landscape in a freak storm that is now common and unanticipated. Making a local plan that includes yer Libtard Neighbor and working together as it was meant to be will likely yield less pain and suffering than "every man fer his own self" and alienating people who can help/save US over fake news and politics.

Just sayin. I have a lot of saved food/medicine/ammo and all that and so do my neighbors. Many of whom are loathsome Democrats/Communists/Libtards and when the SHTF we'll all be trying to help the survivors and all put in as much as we can. Not much time for the "Divided We Prosper" concept. When the SHTF I'm gonna count on my Neighbors and we'll make a plan. And there will be hundreds of US.

VooDoo

You guys must all be awful young.
Am I the only one that remembers eating military C-rats in cans from WWII and Korea ?
They were never good, but they were not rotten and never got me sick.
Blows the hell out of the they only last a couple of years in cans.

Number 1 thing.
Get a Katadyn or similar water filtering device with spare filters and parts.
Hug it like a child, it will be your best friend.

Everything the OP listed in perishable. Non-perishables are things like blankets, portable shelters, cold weather gear, tools, weapons, lubricants, and other hardware. All foods are perishable, regardless of how stored.
Storage of food, should be in orders of longevity, 1. immediately usable/usage, 2. store bought canned or dried, in orginal packages, 3. frozen if able to supply fuel and power to keep frozen, otherwise reduce to tier 1, 4. Self vacuum sealed dry foods, and foods in self-NTG gassed 5 gallon containers (2-5 years), 5. Freeze dried, and vacuum sealed by manufacturer (bags up to 5 years), 6. Freeze dried, and NTG vacuum sealed by manufacturer (canned, up to 20 years). Self canned foods 1-3 years(max).
Production of food should be with an eye to rapidity of growth, ease of management, minimum of work, maximum of nutrition, especially proteins.
Power production is critical. Silent production such as water wheel, solar or wind turbines will still attract others. Noisy production, has a finite limit and requires constant fiddling to keep up, plus ever expanding circle of foraging for fuel. Feeling smug because one has a 10KW Generac fired on a thousand gallon propane tank, is a false sense of security, when pirates are attracted to the sound of a generator.
Moving water can supply a household and garden, if used in conjunction with a Water Ram (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_ram), that allows for moving water to a higher level, for storage.
Training, includes not just the apparent (patrolling, foraging, hunting, etc) but also canning, gardening, clothes-making, putting up food for storage, an entire list of things, that most simply cannot do nor are willing to learn.
The person who plans on marauding for his livelyhood, will have a short life indeed. Certainly not long enough to get good at it.
Just curious, have you ever built a ram pump? I have, results are painful and a lot of work to keep it moving. Not as easy as YouTube wants you to believe.

I gotta tell ya...of the people I know here locally? The Leftist/Hippies/Libtards have the ammo and weapons as well as anyone else. Don't kid yerself into thinking all these people are sheep. Store some food and hygiene stuff. Taking it from hippies, at least here where I live, will be no cake walk.

VooDoo
Them hippies gotta protect the weed grow.

Being socially adept and able to lead and provide for the safety of a small group of potential allies is one of them. Being a lone wolf will be pretty much a death sentence during such a situation.
I think being able to be part of a team is more important than being able to lead one, half the fuds out there think they’ll be leading the neighborhood watch group to the steps of the capital but can’t get along with their next door neighbor during normal times. Now try to get along when you haven’t eaten in three or four days, you only get two to three hours of sleep at a time because you have to pull your guard shift, your feet itch from athlete’s foot, you’ve got mild crotch rot, your sleeping bag has been moist since the last rain, and you just found out you’re out of batteries for your headlamp. Most folks don’t even understand what it feels like then let alone how to be part of a team under those conditions…leading under them is a whole other level.

they've found oats in the pyramids that they figure are 2000 yrs old that still sprout when planted. Oats are a great item to have, u can eat them and grind them up for flour. I actually use some oat flour in the winter in homemade cinnamin rolls i make
Longer than that, he pyramids were 1000-1500 years old 2000 years ago.

I just had a Solar Pump installed in my well. Granted, it's only about 3+ gallons per minute max. But with only two 320W PV panels and full sunlight, I'm getting around 2+ gpm. Best money I spent.

Food is a worry, but not how you think. When you are discovered to have it, and the masses do not, the hungry mobs will destroy anything to get a meal.

You don’t have enough ammo, meds, fuel or people to hold them off.

ID a safe place to sit it out now, stockpile as discussed above, and be prepared for the complete meltdown.

Read the books by Jason Ross in the Black Autumn series.

And the “government” ain’t coming.

It’s all self rescue.

Even for those people in China.
Oh, the government will absolutely come... to seize your goods for the community distribution point.
