What is the standard factory setting for a rear A2 sight? Spin counter clockwise until stop, and then turn clockwise so many turns etc? This knob is what I am talking about...

I assume that the windage is set by just lining up the alignment notches? Again I am just looking for the starting point, obviously you would make adjustments at the range.

Re: Question About A2 Rear Sight

8/3 small gap is the 300 yard setting, 8/3 minus 2 is for 200 yards. Roll up to 5 for a 500 yard setting.

Set the sight at 8/3 small gap, center the rear windage, and flush the front sight. Fire for a battlesight zerp (BZO) at 30 yards; adjust windage using the rear sight adjustment, and elevation using the front sight.

After the BZO, leave the front sight alone and make adjustments using the rear sight.

Re: Question About A2 Rear Sight

The BDC (bullet drop compensator) is calibrated for trajectory of the M855 5.56mm round and on the A2/A3 (fixed carry handle versions) is in 1 MOA clicks. Counting from the 8/3 base to be correctly set for this you should have 3 clicks at 400m, 7 at 500m, 12 at 600m, 18 at 700m and 25 at 800m. If you are asking what the total # of clicks are spinning it bottomed out from base to the top, I don't own A2/A3 fixed version, but can tell you depending on maker (i.e, Colt, Bushmaster, etc.) you might get different answers..

Windage is knob on right and there are hash marks just below the A2 rear peep sight and best place to start is mechanical zero (in the dead center) hash mark.
