Question about brakes and thread protectors

Having a 6.5 Creedmoor built. Was thinking about getting a break, but the local KD matches don't allow them. Can I get my barrel threaded for a brake and just swap out a thread protector for when I'm not using it? Does that even make sense? I'm open to suggestions.

I don't shoot a 6.5 I have a surefire and a couple of smith enterprise on some 30 calibers.
What I switch the thread protector with a suppressor is an AR 15 depending on how I want to fire it.
