I've got some experience with the S&B 5-25x56 scope and noticed that when lowering the power from 8x to 5x, the field of view begins to shrink (or more accurately stays constant thus creating a black outer ring as you descend in power).

Does the S&B 4-16x50 scope do the same thing below a certain power? If it does, at what power does it begin restricting the expansion of the FOV?

I'm considering one of these scope for a new build but haven't had a chance to see one so am hoping that this version is free of this issue. Thanks in advance....

Mo_Zam,

That's good feedback and promising that it only begins to constrict at 5x with a 42mm objective..... I wonder what that means for the 50mm objective version.

Re: Question about S&B 4-16x50 scope

A 4-16x50 does the same thing, only MUCH less noticably from 4-4.75 mag. From about 5x up you have no appreciable black ring.

In other words, the same as stated above. The Obj diameter makes no difference.

From what I've been told, the 5-25 Premier does not suffer from this issue.

Interesting. Thanks 19Scout.

So now I'm curious, does the 3-12x50 also exhibit this same restriction of FOV at 3x? What level?

Re: Question about S&B 4-16x50 scope

3-12 does it from 3-3.75 or so.

Again, much like the 4-16 it is not really noticeable. It is MUCH more noticeable in the 5-25 than it is in the other two.
