Ok so I loaded 50 rounds today with various measurements of powder to see what the gun likes. Anyway, Some of the brass I used is thinner than others for sure. Some of the bullets fit snug and others I can pull out with my fingers. I have ran the brass through the resizer again to get tighter fits and then tested them to see if I could push the bullet in.

Inform me of issues with not so tight vs. very tight rounds please.

    Reewik,

    Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun shell?

As you don't specify, only generic suggestions apply.

It's best to set up for cases that are of the same manufacture, preferably of the same lot. Case length comes into play as well; in mixed pistol cases, the longer cases will get more of a crimp than shorter cases. With mixed length rifle cases, a crimp will not fall uniformly on the bullets and any crimp you apply will vary in compression.

Eliminate as much randomness as you can. Consistancy will follow.

    Re: Question?

Sorry about that. I am loading 308 winchester with the Lee classic loader. All shells resized exactly the same.

The loose ones are from HSM's that I shot last week. The brass is Winchester.

The other brass that has tighter rounds is the Winchester Brand Hunting rounds with Winchester Brass that appears to have a thicker brass on the neck meaning tighter fit.

    Re: Question?

So it's all basically Winchester brass right.
    Obviously different original loadings.

Is all of your brass once fired prior to this reload?
What tools do you have for measuring your cases?
Dial caliper and a case guage?
Are there any differences in the length of the two lots of cases?
What bullets were you trying to load?

    Re: Question?

I am a new reloader so please exuce the lack of details on my part here.

I am using a caliper to measure the brass although I have not trimmed any of the brass. (That could be an answer to part of my question.) I did however mesure the OAL of the loads for consistancy. By saying that I guess if some necks are a little longer or shorter will vary the depth of the bullet thereby causing a loose round?

    Bullets: Sierra 168 GR HPBT
Powder : IMR 4064 ( I used different measurements to test some loads, I made some in 40, 41, 41.5, 42, 42.5, 43 grains. that being stated how many loads do you need to see if you rifle likes them or not.

The main question I have for this thread are what are the effects of a loose bullet, other then the powder coming out..

    Re: Question?

You know I have talked to a lot of people from all over this great country of ours. More specifically I have spoken to them on the topic of reloading. I'm going to say this with the best intentions, but there is something wrong with how this cat is talking.

There is something in how he is speaking that tells me he ain't from Tennusseee. Why that bothers me, I can't tell you. Call it a vibe.

    Cheers,

    Doc

    Re: Question?

I am not from Tennessee and I cannot type worth a crap either. I have lived in your neck of the woods in an earlier part of my life though. Rereading what I typed only verifies that I cannot type and think at the same time..LOL

    Re: Question?

Buy the Lee Reloading book from Midwayusa.com
Read it several times and RTFI. Loose necks will not be an issue.
Trim all cases to suggested OAL (after sizing)
Books are almost always the answer.
    good shooting!

    Re: Question?

All went very well at the range. I shot them all at 200. The best 4 shot group was 1.9" . This was with the brass that was producing the not so tight rounds I spoke of above. I was pretty happy with the results from my first time reloading. I shoot off a Bipod at the range on their table. I was unsupported in the rear, well no bag, I used my left hand for support.

    Brass Used: Winchester
Bullet: Sierra Match King 168 GR HPBT
    Powder: IMR 4064 (43grains)
    Primers: Winchester Large Rifle

Not bad given the problems you had loading them. Might do better with a more consistent stock rest like a sandbag or bunny bag (or both). 5 shot groups is orthodoxy here!
