R700 aac sd 16.5

Does anyone have any experience with the 16.5" AAC SD 308? I've been kicking around the idea of a short compact 308 for deer hunting here in the south and some limited use in some "long range" fun no more than 600yds. I was thinking of throwing it in a Magpul Hunter stock, timney trigger and Vortex HS LR.

I might even consider the 300 blk. But I already have a Ruger RPR in 308 and a 5R in 308 so I'm pretty vested in 308.

I have one and am pretty happy with it.....

I eneded up recutting the crown on the barrel, and polishing the bore.....sitting in a bedded greyboe stock its reliably putting out sub-moa groups(.8-.9moa)

Would be a great little deer rifle...and should perform out to 600 yds no problem

I've had one for several years and like it a lot. It would make a great deer gun or about anything else around here. Here's a pic before I put it in a chassis.

Thanks Boiler. Yea I thought it would make a good deer rifle. If it shot MOA or better I'd be happy. I use a 270 WSM now and it's a bit much for hunting on the property we own now (70 acres) I thought it would be the perfect rifle for it. Plus I can use it for a little presision shooting on the side if I so choose.

It would make a great deer rifle. I use a 16" .308 to about 400 on deer. I do shoot 155's to pick up a little more speed and that set up it is no problem banging steel to 600.

I have a 16.5" AAC in .308 with <200 rounds down the tube that I've been contemplating selling to fund a semi auto project. It's currently sitting in a KRG X-Ray stock. If you're interested, PM me and we can work out a price.

I have an unmodified AacSd with the lousy Hogue stock it came with. I did a home job trigger adjustment was the only mod to the gun. Contemplated bedding it or changing the stock but it shoots to.good to fool.with it. With. 178 amax and Varget, def sub MOA for me. Btw , call me crazy but I like the tackiness of the Hogue. It is flexible but I like the grip and feel, especially when hunting

Is there actually an "AAC-SD" in .308 w/ 16.5" bbl? Thought that's what I was getting when I ordered one (85538) from Buds but it's not marked AAC-SD on receiver like the 300blk 16.5" I have is. Have also seen a couple on store shelves labeled aac-sd but again nothing on receiver or bbl. Remington does have a specifically labeled AAC-SD in .308 (84203) but it's got a 20" barrel (which jives with the 20" bbls AAC sold in the past). Main point is I don't think the SPS Tactical 16.5" .308 is an AAC-SD. But perhaps the only difference is the receiver marking?

I'm not going to dig my rifle out right now, but I believe you are correct that it is labeled SPS Tactical. Model number is 85538.
