need some help/advice from practical or first hand knowledge.

looking at a gas gun for some club level matches (have .22 and in process of having CF one being built)
looking at either a mk12/NSW clone from KAC ( what i carried from 02-04) or a Radian Mod1. price being "about" the same 2-3k. would like to be competitive out to 6-700 yards with reloads and 77gr. again this would be a SPR/DMR project not a house defense. Tho would be a good SHTF rig but im about repeatable, reliable precision

anyone in here using a radian ? your thoughts on it? can i get "more for less" if i build/have built?

1. Why those two?
2. Wait times on both will be awful.
3. Huge upcharge for name (KAC) and huge upcharge for ambi/billet (Radian).

My vote goes toward building if you have the time, tools and patience. Not all parts are in stock and premium products usually have a wait time associated with them.

The Mk12 with 15.1 barrel for nostalgia to be honest. It saved my life not sure if that is even a true option for the gas gun game. and just something I feel I should have now that I shoot for fun.

The radian was something I was seeing videos on and the accuracy seemed to be on par with what I’m looking for. (Tho on the accuracy point I have heard good things about white oak)

I guess neither are just the end all be all. Tho I don’t posses the tools nor the knowledge of building my own and to be fair with other ventures going on I’d rather to pay someone else to do it. I guess some of it is the name/branding like Nike or whatever tho the results are really the purpose of the build/gun not the rollmark. Do you have other suggestions?

Soooo do you want an actual clone or something to compete with?

I have 3 radian builds, no factory guns. They're awesome but the current wait time isn't worth it.

Buy an ADM 17" builders set.

proof research 20" barrel 1:7

Jp scs or vltor A5 for you buffer system

Triggertech diamond

This should get you a .5 moa ish AR that will do well out to the distances you are talking about imo.

Could probably even go a little cheaper and grab a vltor mur upper but OP doesn't want to build. He could grab the parts and send it off to someone.

So to answer the question comp or clone. Was thinking it could do both. However having a love for the Mk12 is kinda like still wanting to play a SEGA as so maybe if the cutting edge things about it (Mk12) are common place now, So maybe I should just look toward a modern SPR/comp style build.

New to this side of the house, hell the AR matches might not even have that much interest. I don’t know what I don’t know.

For sure could do it cheaper but $750 for a matched billet set w/ handguard is a pretty good deal imo. They look similar to radian as well.

If you really want to go cheap the Aero enhanced builders set is good. Get a quality barrel, bcg and you're g2g.

I have a clone correct MK12 Mod 1. They are cool and fun but there is plenty of builds out there that you could do for cheaper and maybe better accuracy but that would be quite a bit lighter. It’s a heavy bitch for what it is. I still use it for coyote hunting since it shoots 50-55gr vmax really well. Obviously shoots 77gr great too

If you're going to buy a KAC, buy the LPR; that or the Radian are both really great rifles................but as someone said earlier VERY long wait unless you can luck up on a used KAC.

I have 3 KAC's ,one is an LPR, & for an off the shelf rifle, it's damned hard to beat.

I bought a Radian lower today. ( Lowers are in stock btw).

FWIW... Radian sent out an e-mail saying Radian 5.56 complete lowers are currently in stock.

For $430..... I get that they look good and are ambi but holy hell. ADM is the better buy price wise and their ambi system is a little easier to manipulate. The radian does look slightly nicer though.

To be honestly it could be a coat hanger on the bottom as long as it shoots. So maybe the radian is paying for extras I don’t need? It just seems/seemed like a total package ready to go. With the gas guns it looks that it is more about barrel (quality and length), bcg, and buffer spring/tube (running suppressed)?

I’m out of military and done with contract work. In the “normal” world now. Money isn’t really an issue but it seems for what I want there is a lot to learn. I just hate re-buying

You won't have to re-buy with a KAC LPR...................if you want a "precision" type rifle.
It has a Kreiger SS barrel & is gassed right; about the only downside is the proprietary bolt, but with normal use, that bolt will likely outlast you, or just have a spare on hand.

If you look hard, used ones that are more of less new, do occasionally come up for sale.

Unfortunately, your timing is bad for getting something as specific as either the Radian or the KAC in a short time frame right now.

Mk12 NSW

considering ADM makes the parts for radian, I can not justify the huge up charge

Really?

Didn't know that.....................what parts do they make for Radian?

Everything I've ever used from ADM has been good, I really like their mounts; ADM barrels are made by Criterion, so does that imply that Radian barrels are also made by Radian?

Radian anti-tilt BCG's are excellent.
