Ramshot TAC versus Varget?

Re: Ramshot TAC versus Varget?

Being a spherical powder it will definitely be easier to get consistent loads from a regular powder measure.

I've had some BR shooters speak well of it for their 6.5 loads.

I'm about done with Varget as I've found another powder that will give me more speed with the same accuracy CFE223. It's about 75-100 fps faster than the Varget. It appears that TAC is about the same speed range as Varget.

It might be a good choice if you don't like the traditional Varget "crunch" as it settles easier in the case. No drop tubes needed.

Re: Ramshot TAC versus Varget?

TAC is a bit faster than Varget. TAC seems to like to run hard; burns dirty until you get the pressure up. Meters like water.

42.5grs of TAC with 175SMK gives me 2610fps and very good accuracy.

Re: Ramshot TAC versus Varget?

TAC meters awesome, myself I have not been able to get the same accuracy out of it as my Varget loads, close, but not quite. I have not shot it across a large spread of temperatures, from reading on here though I understand it to be somewhat less temp stable than Varget.

Re: Ramshot TAC versus Varget?

I tried TAC in 223 with heavy bullets. Used the data provided by Ramshot. I was never able to get anywhere close to the max before pressure got to high. The were no indications until a primer blew.
I don't really care what anyone else is doing in 308 loads. I will stay with Varget as long as it keeps giving me the performance I am getting now.
