Hi,

I'm looking at a couple different range finders right now and I was looking for opinions. I'm looking at the Leilka 1600, the newest swaroski monocular, and the Zeiss. So pros and cons from you guys? All the models are pretty similar as far as claimed distance, the Zeiss has the ability to use their pre imputed ballistic curves, if I remember you can program your info into the Leica. Obviously the ultimate is either the Zeiss or Leica binos but at twice as much I doubt that is in the cards. Thanks for the help!

Re: Range finders

I use a Leica 1200 and am very happy with it. It has crystal clear glass and very accurate range finding. I use it in place of binos because of the light weight and small size. Only downside to it is the small power of the magnification, but the objects being seen are perfectly clear. I've been able to range objects beyond 1000yds.

Re: Range finders

I have the leica 1600 and it works very well.

i have gotten it to be quite repeatable beyond 1000 yards. I havent gotten to mess with it too much because of the weather, but I have very reliably tagged buildings at 1300.

i like the ergonomics of it as well, but i have not gotten to use the others you mentioned to compare. I will say that any of the ballistic "programing" is not really something that you will use on the 1600. It is a pretty coarse aproximation of what you are shooting and gets pretty spotty fast as distance increases.

Happy with it.

Re: Range finders

I've used a Swarovski for a couple of years and find it to have excellent optical quality and regularly ranges in excess of 1,000 yards with non-reflective surfaces like soil and bushes. It malfunctioned at one point, giving obviously erroneous readings, and they replaced it free of charge. I'm happy with it.

Re: Range finders

Just got the Swarovski about 2 weeks ago. So far I love it. Ranged my dirt berm at 1048 and a group of trees at 1620. It was a perfect cloudy day when I got the trees. On a bright sunny day it shot out to 1267 very easy.
