Hello all,

First, thank you all for the wealth of information posted here. I have been reading a lot here and on M4Carbine on this topic. I apologize in advance for another this vs that scope post. I believe there is a variable in my situation that might change the default Vortex answer.

I have a Ruger RPR in .308 which right now has a SWFA SS fixed 10x on it. My local range is 300yds and with an hour drive I can shoot 600yds. my local training facility (Sig Academy) goes to 1000yds. I am shooting mostly to get as small of groups as possible. I want more magnification. The vast majority of my shooting will be at 300, but I don't want to limit my longer range options.

I can get the Sig Tango6 5-30 with the Dev-l Mil reticle for $1500, new. Right now Optics Planet has the Vortex Razor gen2 4.5-27 with the ERB-7C reticle for $1795 (with janten 10% coupon) with a $150 gift card after purchase, which would become 34mm rings.

The discount I get on the Sig is nearly 50%. I like the built in eletronic level on the Sig. From what I've read, the newer Sigs track as well as the Vortex, but there is less info out there on the Sigs.

The Vortex would cost me $150 more. Any advise? I don't want to spend $3k on a Nightforce ATACR, IOR or a S&B for a $1200 rifle.

I do spend money on training and try to take 2 classes a year at the academy. I will take their precision rifle series classes starting next year, once I am better with 1st bolt rifle and have better glass.

Thank you!

I can't comment on the sig scope, but I have the razor mounted on my RPR .308 and I love it. My local range only goes to 300 metres as well or I can drive 7 hours return to shoot 500 metres. Only took 4 shots to zero, turrets are super nice with Audible clicks. Eb7 reticle is very nice and easy to use.

The Sig is a lot of scope for the money and even rivals the razor on glass. Many say the Sig has slightly superior glass. Maybe the turrets go to vortex but dollar for dollar, I think you might be better off with the Sig.

Op, get a hold of Scott at Liberty Optics for pricing. Getting the Razor gen 2 should be a no brainer.
^^^ This. Liberty Optics is one of the SH vendors. Call - on the phone - Scott @LibertyOptics. I got one of my Razors through him (the other via a 50%-off cert I picked up at a Vortex-sponsored match). It's always a good idea to call - on the phone - the SH vendors who sell gear you want to buy and let them know you learned about them here.

Having shot the SIG competitively for the last four years I can tell you that the tango 6 lineup is much more scope than you are paying for. The dev-L reticle is clean and well thought out. Clarity is on par with similar price range and higher scopes. It tracks phenomenal and the levelplex is an awesome feature that allows you to focus through your glass instead of an alternative level outside of your fov. My only turn off is the elevation knob needing a slight wiggle to lock it down each time versus the vortex knob. However while on the clock I’m not locking and unlocking the turret so it’s a non-issue for me

With the new ebr7 reticle vortex has made a big jump and the ability to fine tune zero with smaller than tenth adjustments is nice also. They also have a huge group of people shooting them in PRS/NRL.

Vortex does a great job advertising their warranty but SIG has been great at replacing even at fault incidents that I have seen others have. I’ve absolutely punished my first 5-30 for three seasons and finally moved it to the trainer rifle this year for no other reason than to put the new one on a match gun and still have an exact replica for practice.

Either way you go your doing the right thing by purchasing solid glass so if it comes a time when you do want to upgrade it can be the rifle and a simple swap of the glass over to the new one.

I have no first hand experience with Sig optics but i have a Vortex razor and I am very happy with the glass clarity and the warranty. Definitely cant go wrong with either, been seeing decent reviews on the Tango6

Sig.

There is no reason to pay more for a razor when the glass is arguably the same, and you get the internal level.

For what it's worth I can get more comfortable and see better through the sig.
