My bolt has gotten pretty rough looking over the years. I want to strip what is left of the bluing off and redo the bluing.

Here are my questions - As long as I don't touch the lugs, my headspace won't be affected right? Or would it not even matter if I did blue the lugs because I am not adding any anything over top of the lug surface?

I would like to duracoat or cerakote at some point, but I can't right now. If krylon would be better than bluing for the bolt - let me know.

Any input is appreciated.

Parkerizing is "non-dimensional", and won't disturb headspace. Still, you can put a LIGHT coat of grease on the back of tge bolt lugs to stop that spit fron getting parked. If it were me, I wouldn't sweat it.

I ended up bluing it for the time being. I will re-parkerize it in the near future. I don't have access to a sand blaster right now, so I will have my smith do it for me soon. The bluing actually turned out looking really good.

The bolt is silky smooth with the bluing and I do like that, but I know the parkerizing is much more durable and corrosion resistant.
