Hi all just got my B&C a5 adjustable stock #2094...noticed there was more than ample room in recoil lug recess...i can shift the stock forward and back in the recess...my previous stock was a blackhawk axiom knoxx recoil and it had a pressure point to keep that lug nice and snug...i noticed, looking at some other pics of the a5 that indeed the recess "looked" oversized..is this normal?? when the lug is tight to the back of the bedding block the action screws line up as they should, should I shim it tight to the back of bedding block or leave it?? I called B&C and their "tech" which sounded like some lady who just answers phones says "oh just send it back and we'll look at it", great more money i gotta spend, I need enlightenment??? oh it's for a rem 700 sps 22-250

Re: recoil lug recess

the back of the lug is the only part that needs to be making contact. the front, bottom and sides are just along for the ride.

i like to start the screws, stand the rifle on it's butt pad and snug the front screw, then snug the rear screw, then torque the front screw and finally torque the rear screw. this method keeps the recoil lug firmly seated against the recess.

Re: recoil lug recess

You could use bedding compound like Devcon or Acraglas. Bed the action and then you will not see that "oversize" recess for the recoil lug. It will shoot better too.

Re: recoil lug recess

Make sure there's no gap between teh bottom of the receiver and the bedding block (some recoil lugs are longer than the groove is deep) and bed the recoil lug...as CAMO said.

Re: recoil lug recess

Yeah the AcraGlas is easy and works well. But my next bedding will be with devcon. It is a much more stronger steel putty. Although im not to llsure how easy it is to mix. But it should not be to much of a problem.

If you decide to bed you action. You should look at this thread in the gunsmithing section. There are alot of answers, to what ever questions one may have.

Good luck with your rifle
