what is that tube for? does that catch the spent primers that are removed from the brass?

Yes. Get a trash can, and run it into the trash can, and all spend primers will go in the trash. Or, take the black plug, and plug up the clear tube, and let it fill up as you size/deprime. When it starts getting full, just dump them out. BTW- great choice on the press.
