I have a 700 SPS tactical, 20" with a SS HD 10X on EGW rings on a badger base, in a Bell Carlson stock.

My cold bore shot is 0.1 Mil low and right consistently.

Following shots are to POA.

What in the world can cause such a thing?

Any help is much appreciated.

Maybe you? Is it every reload or first shot of the day? I don't do much rifle these days but I suffer the same think with my pistols. First rounds are low then they suddenly get where I wanted them to go in the first place. Also is it after you clean it?

It is cold, dirty. I record it in my data book, and looking back 2 years with this rifle, It is consistent.
.1 mil low and right. I can deal with it, but am wondering WHY????

If it is me, I start my sessions with dry firing, 5-6 times just to settle me down, get my NPA together, etc.

ay ideas?

On a rifle there are a lot of variables but if the barrel to receiver is not perfect you can get a slight shift with it heating up. If there is any slop... It will expand and fill the void. After the next shot ect the barrel and reciver will be in full contact and expand at the same rate "in theory". It is a very comon "problem" in truth if you know where the round will go then it is not all that bad. I just picked up a 260 and a 308 barrel from aac the fit was good but not as good as if I turned the barrel my self to match the reciver. They all seem fine once tight but you can always tell a factory barrel by the play "not much" but its there when u thread it on or off. I have not shot them yet. I will get out soon ish.... I just had a baby girl on Thursday, I expect them to have a cold bore shift just as you are asking about.
I am sorry if my spelling is terrible and grammar is off I am typing this on my phone from the hospital and haven't slept much the last couple of days.

Thanks Buddy, and CONGRATULATIONS!!! Ride the high, I will never forget the 30 hours of labor, and everything else associated with the birth of my son. -Joe

In order to make a good fair assessment I would suggest giving it a good cleaning with some copper/carbon fouler killer. Once you know the bore is clean you can start determining if it is the shooter or other variables. Good luck

thanks, I will try that.
Don't bother. It was clearly a guess: It does not make any sense that cleaning and/or copper removal will solve anything. All that will do is make the rifle shoot less predictably and increase the number of variables you are trying to track down.

Frankly, at a consistent one tenth in the same direction I am not convinced that you even have an issue.

If it's a factory Remington the barrel is probably sufficiently torqued, but if you want to try to hunt it down I would start by re-torquing the stock bolts to a higher spec. Then maybe try more torque on the front screw than the rear screw.
