Hello Folks,

I'm thinking about a cute lil Truck gun and would love to tap your minds in this reguard.

What i have:
R700 SA .223 10.5"
Rem Chassis Pistol stock
20250519_130707.jpg

Easy accessible:
Supressors

What i would like:
A compact thumper for fun and hunting (min 740ft/lbs at 100y)
Option for supersonic use with 1500ft/lbs at 100y (our legal requirement for big game)
Stay below 12" bbl lenght
Not a too wildcat cartridge, i'm able to reload but the marked is not as wide as the us one.

What would be your dream Truck Bolt gun?

Thanks alot

Funny this thread came up. My mind had been toying with the idea of a sawed off Socom or Bushmaster Bolt Gun first the last week or two.
Would consider going the route of the poors and grab a Ruger Ranch BM just to see if I liked it well enough to spend real money.
I do like the Socom case design and .458 diameter a bit better though…..

I have a 16” 458 socom on a REM 700 action. Would love to get it cut down to around 10” since it is strictly for subsonic use. Currently running 500 grain Makers at 975 FPS. Left a blood trail this last season that Helen Keller could have seen the blood from. 85 yard shot and 50 yard track. Pic attached of the rifle and first harvest. Love that the impact is three times louder than the shot.

Just envisioning the barrel ending just past the end of the stock. Say 12” or so. Then the can.

400’ish hard cast, .35 metplat , powder coated at 1050.

I can almost hear a sound like the slapping of a ripe melon with a 2x4……

Thats a sweet rig and good Story.
Seems like i wilö get me a standart caliber SA as a Doner and make a stubby one.

It’s easy enough. I went with a Tromix barrel shortly before they stopped production. Believe it’s a 1/10 twist. Shoots sub minute with sub sonic loads. I can’t ask it for more throwing that much lead down range.

Do you have any load data you would be willing to share for the 500 grain maker?

You got lucky snagging one of the Tromix Rem 700 barrels while they were still making them. I am struggling to find anyone that can turn a short 450 Bushmaster barrel for a 700.

I got burned by Mos-Tek on my 450 Bushmaster AR barrel, so they're out as an option.

Preferred should be able to get you fixed up for that 450 BM. They will go down to 8”. Just had a 22 creed spun up for my son’s first rifle. It shot ¾ MOA within the first 5 rounds with factory hornady ammo.

Go ahead. Seeing some real life numbers would be very intresting to the topic.

DISCLAIMER : EVERY FIREARM IS DIFFERENT. USE THIS INFORMATION AT YOUR OWN RISK. THIS LOAD WAS DEVELOPED IN A BOLT ACTION WITH 16.5” BARREL.

This was using CCI large pistol magnum primers, Makers 500 grain T-Rex and 16.0 grains of Lil Gun powder. Starline brass.

I have tested H110 as well, but don’t have the test information handy to share. I just happened to have this photo saved in my phone from a range trip.

AGAIN, ANY USE OF THIS INFORMATION IS NOT AT MY RECOMMENDATION AND AT YOUR OWN RISK

How do you like the stubby .223? I’ve been thinking about setting up a truck gun using a short 700 in a McMillan Hunter stock or Manners CS1 with 9-10.5” barrel and a can.

Its a fun Rifle and shoots decent (factory pencil barrel)
My upgrade to a different catridge is obly due to regional legal neccecities.

Else its working fine.
The stainless welded can takes the punishment with ease.
