GettySuffolk County police said a woman, using a grill similar to the one above, tried to heat the family's Brentwood home after running out of heating oil. A Long Island mom was charged with reckless endangerment Wednesday after lighting a BBQ grill inside her home, subjecting her family to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Suffolk County police said Marie Claudia-Blaise, 43, was using the grill to heat the family's Brentwood home after running out of heating oil.

Cops went to the house around 4 a.m. after a man called 911 to report a woman had passed out.

Officers quickly determined the family was suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Officers found Blaise and her son Claudys, 13, unconscious and her 10-year-old daughter Francysca, semi-conscious.

Her husband, Yves Blaise, 49, and another daughter Frandia, 16, were able to leave the house on their own, cops said.

It's pretty cold up there on Long Island and she was obviously trying to keep the family warm. I'll lay odds she was unaware of the risks of CO poisoning.

Haiti is a very warm place and it's a major leap for tropically accustomed people to brave cold northern winters with no heat. They are damned lucky to be alive and can be grateful to have learned a hard lesson without the cruel tragedy that often accompanies it.

Carbon monoxide detectors save lives just like smoke detectors!!!

Carbon monoxide is commonly referred to as the silent killer because it's colorless and odorless. Carbon Monoxide is a byproduct of combustion. Anything that uses combustion to generate heat will produce carbon monoxide whether it be your gas/LP or oil furnace, charcoal or gas/LP grill, and even your stove.

They are very lucky to be alive and hopefully others will learn from her mistake. Education is the best form of prevention and why we include teaching the dangers of Carbon Monoxide in our Fire Prevention programs in the schools. This article is proof that even adult often don't know the dangers!

A few years ago, I read about a Scout Master who decided to heat the tent with a charcoal grill. Killed himself, his two sons and other boys in the tent.
Ignorance abounds.

I'll play....

Had a house fire in a dope growers home that had about $50k in hydroponic growing equipment in the basement. Computer controlled fertilizer feed, lighting system, etc etc.

They were stealing power with a $10 extension cord connected with duct tape. Who says pot doesn't make you stupid.
