About two years ago one of my uncles friends who didnt shoot gave him a R600 in .308 that looked like absolute shit. my uncle had no use for it so he told me that if I fixed it up I could have it so needless to say I jumped on that opportunity. I should have taken before pictures because this thing looked like it was kept in the back of a pickup truck for 10 years and only taken out to beat with a crowbar. first thing I did was clean it and I think that was the very first time its ever been cleaned! after that I washed the muck off of it, sanded the shit out of it, then threw in a combo of staining it then steel wooling it. this was all last year and i forget what else I did to it but LOTS of hours were put into it.
the above was build up for me not wanting to part with this rifle but if it isnt a shooter im not gunna keep it, i havnt put much time into load devolopment for this rifle yet but the best groups ive been getting were maybe 5 inches.
all i know for this rifle is that it doesnt like heavy loads(I figured it wouldnt) last set of bullets I loaded used 168 grain acubonds starting with 39 grains of powder and working half a grain up every 5 bullets for 50 bullets. I didnt even shoot them all because the hotter loads were shooting bigger and bigger. the only reason I used the 168 grain was because I only used what we had for the 300 win mag (forgot to buy for the .308)
im planning on buying some 150 grain rounds and starting low, this is more of a bush gun and I would be very happy with 1MOA(not minute of pie plate) out of it and my question is does anybody else have one of these and if so how well does it shoot?
