Okay, so I'm new to the forum and a new owner of my Remington 700. My question is, instead of buy a conversion kit for the detachable magazine, would I be able to just drop the spring loaded internal one out and just slap a magazine up in there? I understand this may sound dumb, but I figured this is the right place to ask!

Not gonna happen with the standard kit, the magazines are to wide, there is no hooking/release mechanism, so it just wont work. If you want a direct drop in replacement check out the Wyatte's DBM, you gotta convert if you want to use AICS mags.

Also HS precision makes a direct drop in kit, not sure about quality or durability though.

If you planned on changing your stock I would hold out for now and look into something like a mcrees or ai chassis whick greatly increase accuracy and conver to dbm as well.

the HS is very well built and robust piece of kit, but uses proprietary magazines that are expensive.

You can buy a choate stock that excepts the remington factory clips for $188 @ Midway usa The clips for the short actions are $45 at midway or $30 on gun broker It's a cheeep to turn an adl into a clip gun. Also works with bdl's
