Gunsmithing Remington 700 differences

Well fellas, after a long hiatus I have crawled back into the hide. I picked up a neglected old Remington 700 7mm magnum and I noticed that one of the bolt lugs doesn’t have the usual cut out. And this rifle was manufactured in August 19 67 and has a six digit serial number. I’m comparing it against several otherRemington 700 rifles both long and short action that are all letter and 7 digit serials. Does anybody know the history of the change in the receiver in corresponding cut in the lug?

Gunsmithing - remington 700 action ??? No prefix!!

I just bought a real nice 95% + condition remington 700 bdl in 243. The rifle's action has no prefix in the serial number. The way i understand this is an older receiver. Maybe from the 60's. I was doing a bit of reading and read were the scope mounts of today will not fit properly on the older...

The bolt and receiver were mod for the guide rail to help eliminate bold biding and to allow smoother bolt travel.
