Remington 700 Long Range

I'll believe it when I see shouldered barrels being made for them.
The new Alpha 1 models- apparently not yet on the shelves, and being rolled out from the new Georgia facility- are machined to much more precise tolerances.
One-piece bolts that are interchangeable, along with spin-on barrel swaps. I'm rooting for them- I'd like to see Remington return to its quality roots.

Can't wait to get my hands on one.

Looks promising if the barrels are made from their new steel. I might have to get one.
According to Remington’s new marketing/engineering dude in the video I saw, he said they are now making ALL Remington rifle barrels to 416r stainless, with 5R rifling, updated modern twist rates, and threaded muzzles. So I have high hopes. I plan on getting one of the new Alpha models just to try. Don’t know what caliber yet, have to wait and see what they will be offered in. 🤷🏼 But it will almost definitely be a 7mm bore. I just hope they’re running 1:8 twists on all 7mm bores, and offer a 7mm-08. 👍🏼

I have a remington 700 bdl in 8mm remington magnum. How much work would it take to convert to 338 lapua besides a barrel and bolt?
.338 Lapua is overrated, honestly…Unless you just love shooting $10 bills every time you pull the trigger…

But if you’re hellbent, you’d be better off just selling it and buying a .338 Lapua.

A buck for the 300 A-Tip, less than a buck for powder at 90-something grains, ten cents for a primer these days, and maybe fifty cents for pro-rating brass at 5 loads. Less than $3/round. Seeing the impact on the steel plate at one mile, priceless

Nothing's cheap in the ELR game.

Yup, and keep the speed/pressure down just a bit. You’ll still get your mile impacts and the brass will last 10+ firings. It’s probably the most expensive ELR I can afford as a low side of the tracks kinda guy.

Gearing up my .260 for 1 mile next. Even with $0.50-0.60 high quality projectiles, add 40-45-ish powder in brass that gets 15-20 firings, at speeds that don’t push the envelope. 😁😎

I have the new edition with H&S stock in 30-06. 06 because I’m already invested in 30-06 for my Garand.
Just started a break in procedure. A low powered hand load using 43gn 4895 and a 155hpbt did produce a 1 1/4” group at 200yds. The gun does show promise .

I would advise against this.

The M700 receiver has proven itself to be a bit anemic when firing a cartridge that big. Basically, the front ring will elongate slightly under load, then spring back to normal length. It doesn't yield, it just stretches and snaps back. The problem is brass. Brass doesn't do this, so you end up with a hard-felt "tick" at the top of the primary extraction cam. It's been a known issue for well over a decade now.

It'll tolerate it if you shoot only 250-grain pills on a moderate load. It's when you jump to 300s and lean on the powder charge that it becomes an issue. Something with a .750" diameter bolt body is much better suited for the 33LM. 1.400" diameter receivers are a good idea too. Remington got around this on their factory guns by throating them like a porn star. They just never developed the chamber pressure. -a large part of why they never shot that well.

I too have been working with the Remington 700 Long Range in 30-06. Having been a Garand shooter I have about 2000 pieces of Lake City Match brass that has never been fired. I am working with W760 and Sierra 169 grain HPBT-C. I have not fired the rifle as I have a chemo-port in my right shoulder, so I rely on my cousin to shoot the rifle. We have the rifle shooting pretty good at 100 yards with 51.9 grains of W760 with a Sierra 169-grain HPBT-C. My next mod will be to replace the stock trigger with a Timney 2 stage (I like two-stage triggers.)

I can tell you that the Long Range 700s that I saw and have are a better grade than the Walmart and Cabelas 700 specials.

Also, a basic Timney trigger upgrade does wonders.
I haave one of the ones called 700 PCR (Professional Rifle Chassis). Bought it used, swapped the trigger for a Timney Hit and it shoots lights out with Hornady ELD 140.

Does the Long Range come with a threaded barrel?

I don’t know about now, but the originals did not come with a threaded barrel. It’s the one thing I would have liked for my use.

ETA: it looks like that is still the case.

If it was a 700 from 30yrs ago, maybe.

At $1k and it being a modern-ish Remington?
Pass. Tikka, Bergara and Howa offer way more for the $.

Not if it you want a 26” heavy barrel .30-06.
