Gunsmithing Remington 700 receivers caliber differences

Is a 223 caliber remington 700 sa receiver identical to a 308 receiver other than the bolt face? Can a 223 receiver be replaced with a 308 bolt and work with the proper barrel and chamber? I have a 223 receiver and a 308 bolt. Just need to know if they will be compatible. Anyone know?

Feed rails are different. A .223 receiver will not feed a .308. The rails can be altered but if you do change them them you won't be able to go back to the .223.
