So I bought a used Remington 870 Tactical from the local shop back home in Missouri about 8 months ago. Other than irregular target practice, it hasn't been used much, maybe 500-600 rounds total through it since I bought it. Not entirely sure when it started, but a good portion of the finish has flaked off, started as a small chip I imagine, but has expanded in all directions. Anyone else have this same problem? What about some recommendations as far as having it refinished? Anybody know of a place somewhat convenient to Washington DC that I could take it to? What about ball park pricing for this kind of basic refinishing? Thanks guys.

That is why I stayed away from the model with the "tactical hammered paint finish." It sucks, but i'd try to get the rest off and hit it with krylon.

So I just finished the build, but still haven't tackled the flaking paint issue. I'm considering doing it myself with Lauer's Duracote, is this a fairly straightforward endeavor? I don't want it to come out looking like hell. Do I have to have the metal parts sandblasted first, to remove all of the old finish? Would it be best to just send it to them? What about the Black-T finish I've heard about on here (http://www.black-t.com/index.htm)? Thanks guys.

I haven't talked to Remington, but I just heard back from Frank at Black-T, and he's saying $185+ shipping to coat the entire shotgun. That includes everything, springs, screws, pins, the works, so I'm going to go with that.

eleaf: Yes it is, just waiting on my 6 shell side saddle, an aluminum anodized shell follower, and maybe upgrade the magazine tube spring. Need to find some good ghost ring sights as well. Going to make sure I have everything 100% before shipping it to get the Black-T coating. Any other recommendations fellas? This little project was just something for fun, before I start my first AR build.

Yeah. Forget all the bells and whistles. No need and only serve to detract.

Nah, it's the factory Tactical Extended Rem™ Choke tube. I may look into a different one, these ports go straight out the side. I've seen some that are designed to better divert gasses/debris away (forward) from the shooter. Not a big deal right now, as I'm not exactly breaching doors on a regular basis. *sigh*
