Remington Quality Control down the tubes?

I've had significant accuracy issues with my 338 Lapua, and I didn't think too much of it as far as quality control goes (maybe I should have?) because I have heard it can be fairly common with those rifles.

Aside from accuracy issues, the rifle wouldn't extract brass worth a damn.

A friend of mine bought a Remington 5R in 300 WM and his won't extract brass either. He has yet to fire it, so we can't say for accuracy, but this is two consecutive rifles bought that had extraction issues.

Is anybody else having issues with their recently bought Remington rifles? I hope to not find out that I have the touch of death or something.

Re: Remington Quality Control down the tubes?

My sps tactical came out of the box with a bad extractor and the threads on the barrel weren't square so my barrel was crooked. Still, after applying 30 min of windage correction, the rifle shot way under MOA at 100 yards.

Re: Remington Quality Control down the tubes?

I had a 700 XCR and I did not have any issues ... but the extractor is tiny IMHO. It was a great rifle with 3/4 -> 1.0 MOA of accuracy at 100yds. I decided to sell it as I wanted something that was far more accurate ... the only answer is custom or go to a high end manufacture,,,, and I hate to say it ... Remington is not a high end manufacture ... I would look at Surgeon, Tactical Rifles... etc

Also you can get your bolt worked on to get a bigger extractor installed.... that might be a thought if you are happy with the rifle.

Re: Remington Quality Control down the tubes?

oh dont get me wrong ... it is a very nice rifle ... my issue was that the first 3-6 shots were dead on ... then it started to foul up and the groups would start to loosen and I would have to clean... it is a great rifle for a line production. Not sure what size barrel you got .. mine was 28 inches ... which was way to long for me ... I now am sporting a 20 inch with a sound suppressor to push it to 28 ... there is no way I could put a sound suppressor on a 28 inch ... it would be 36 by the time it was on there ... and since the barrel is fluted ... I could not cut it down.

Re: Remington Quality Control down the tubes?

I have a Rem 700 sps varmit with a bell and carlson stock that will shoot as good as 95% of any rifle on the hide. I can't say enough about a $550.00 rifle and my buddy buys all that the local Dick's sporting goods gets in and drops them in a new stock and they consistently shoot 1/2 moa or better

Re: Remington Quality Control down the tubes?

Last 3 yrs I bought a 700 LTD CDL 260 Remington that was 100% QC, a SPS tac 308 that shot 1/2"@100. Last year a 700 Milspec .223 that is a great shooter and 100% in QC. Looking foward to buying a 243 from them

What quality control? With a factory Remington, as with most other factory rifles in that price range, YOU are the quality control. 'Hope you know what to look for.

Re: Remington Quality Control down the tubes?

My most recent purchase from them was a SPS Varmint left hand in 308. The gun shoots great, no mechanical issues, fit and finish is very good for a 600 dollar gun (although I have other Remingtons with better fit & finish).

I have a "beater" model 710 chambered in 30-06 that has done nothing but please me. I know that is a dreaded model to say around here, but for a hunting rig, it does its job.

Another Remington in the safe is an older model 700 30-06 that belonged to my father. BEAUTIFUL rifle with dark blue finish, jewelled bolt, very nice wood, etc. If I'm not mistaken he purchased this rifle in the 70s at some point. The fit and finish on it is FAR better than any of my other Remingtons, almost can't believe it was a mass produced firearm.

As far as QC, all of my Remingtons go bang when I pull the trigger, and if I do my part, hit the target fairly accurately. No failed ejections, no FTFs, etc....

You aren't the first person I have heard having some QC issues though. Firearm sales are up, and QC might be starting to lack a little bit as production is high. Thats the only explanation I can think of.

Mike.
