Remington twist question

Re: Remington twist question

You can measure it using a cleaning rod with a index marked on masking tape and masking tape on the stock, measure the distance it takes for the index mark on the rod to make 1 full revolution (ie 1 full rev in 12"). Use a tight patch and the rod will follow the rifling.

Re: Remington twist question

I don't use the tape...just a tape measure.

I'll work the rod with a wet patch and work it back and forth in the barrel to ensure proper rifling grip--> pull the rod back until I'm a couple inches in front of the throad--> put a piece of tape (like a flag) on the rod aligned with the back of the recoil pad--> with even smooth pressure push the rod forward until it makes 1 turn--> use a ruler or tape measure from the back of the pad to the full turn.

You'll want to do this a few times as it's easy for the patch to slip past the rifling a little.
