I have a McM A-5 with the XL Decelarator buttpad and the buttpad appears to be glued on. I have an idea for my own spacer system to increase LOP but want to remove the XL with a minimum of damage to the A-5. Wanted to solicit the pros. Thx in advance.

...yes, those pads are just glued on, you can cut them off clean and not damage a McMillan at all. I always replace the factory McMillan pads with new ones, I cut the old off with a normal miter box saw with a 12" diameter fine carbide circular blade. It's just like cutting down/shortening LOP on a wood stock, no worries when it's a McMillan, they're not like the plastic POS's....good luck.

Haven't done it to a Mcmillan, but with a HS Precision, I got the stock and pad into a freezer for a while and then used a thin bladed knife on the seam and struck it with a hammer. Nice clean break. Apparently the glue gets very brittle when cold.
