Replacement OTF Knife?

I too need a new OTF. I carried the same one for 10 years until some prick at work decided to steal it, they said I was full of shit and he got fired for stealing a few months later surprise surprise

I love my Microtechs, I favor the troodons and Scarabs, I found the Ultratech a bit too small for my preference. Spendy and they like to be kept clean but I always have one on me. I also like the S/E’s or T/E’s as opposed to the D/E’s. Just my .02.

Definitely Microtech. The Ultratechs are nice, but yes just barely on the small side. If you can, get one with some texturing. The black one in the pic below is a Makora, which is just an Ultratech with some nice added touches. The grip tape is a big help. I also prefer the Combat Troodons and Scarabs.

The Ultratechs now come in an upgraded "Zero Blade Play", which makes them smoother in operation.

I have both, the livewire is a better cutter and has better steel. LW pocket clip sucks. The glass breaker on the UT is dumb. I haven't tried the new UT though as im done with their shitty steel. The steel on the microtechs don't seem to hold an edge as long. I had the new combat troodon gen3 that i gave to my niece.

My favorite overall is the benchmade shootout.

Kershaw Blur or CRKT is always in my pocket

And I keep a KABAR in my truck at all times too. It works wonders cutting insulation off valves and piping too.

Bumping this back up. Played with a Benchmade Phaeton at a Cabellas a few weeks ago and decided I needed an OTF in my life. After some research, I was between a Microtech UTX-85 and the Phaeton so I did the Hide thing and ordered both to see which one I like better. I received the Microtech a few days ago...very nice but the action feels way stiffer/effortful than I remember the Phaeton being. Should have the Phaeton soon for a direct comparison.

The phaeton will be a better cutter due to the thinner blade stock and better handle design. The utx85 and ultratech blade stock is too thick and the handle design sucks for actual cutting. I also don't care for the steel heat treat on microtechs. I can get a good edge initially, but it doesn't seem to hold an edge very long.

Look at the kershaw livewire as well.

I'm a fan of Hogue's counterstrike series of knives. I carry one when not in the field. If this were for hard use, I'd get a small fixed blade. I'm a fan of the Fällkniven R2 in Elmax for a hard-use knife in a small, yet compact form factor.

Same. I have had the same one for 5+ years. Branded “HK” on one side and Hogue on the other. Looks like the HK Hadron with partially serrated blade. Made in USA. Part 54000 maybe.

Those are some good prices. I wish they had the Carbon with black S/E blade I have had my eye on...Model 9000CFBLK
They have 9000CF and 9000BLK but I don't see 9000CFBLK

Both spear point also the 9000BLKST serrated.

CF is carbon fiber, BLK is blackout aluminum

But not all of them are <$220

clickity-popity for bigger

$150 if it's legit

$130 if legit

$75 probably not legit

Saw all three of those. I'm 99% sure they are not legit.
