Re: replacing bolt handle on Savage 10 PC ??

Because I have had four of these over the years and they were all (including this one) pretty damn smooth.
Anyway.... I did what I swore I wasn't going to do. Once again... fix something instead of sending it back. I really liked the look and feel so I took it apart put a little dychem blue on the handle and cycled it a few times.... found the "high" spots and have gently filed, then sanded, then buffed. Smooth as glass now.
You should NOT have to FIX something like this.. but I didn't want to wait till they returned from Shot Show... order another from Stockade, etc etc etc
Great pics above. That is exactly the main spot mine was rubbing and causing so much friction. Aside from the apparent rubbing at that location, to me, the angle on the SSS handle where it meets that collar ring is off. Factory handle is perfectly parallel but the aftermarket one seems a bit off. Just my .02, maybe that is part of the problem.
So tomorrow she goes to the smith to get the bbl threaded.... then Duracoated and then I can finally put the glass on top and go shoot!!! Wooooohoo!!! </div></div>
double ditto on that. i had to fight off the urge to take a file to it. i agree with the angle being off where the bolt handle meets the buffer. plus they reduced the surface areas that are needed for the two parts to make contact and work off eachother.
so did you have to paint it again too? i am tempted to just do what you did, but id have to get some money for correctly re-engineering the thing to work properly. why they didnt copy savages casting and just redesign the handle part and be done with it?
