Well Ive decided to start a video series about restoring a attic find shotgun that was provided to me from a friend. I have been refinishing firearms and doing gunsmithing for quite a few years and as of late Ive been trying to video some of my projects to try to teach people that these are projects they can in fact do themselves.

Ill add on to this thread as I complete the other videos in the series.

Basically starting from scratch through completion.
Any comments are welcome
The vids are set up step by step so hopefully people can find something useful in there somewhere.

As a member of several forums as well as the owner of one myself Im just trying to get some feedback from people on what they think and if these kind of videos are worth pursueing
Anyway thanks and I hope to hear back from some of you on what you think.

Re: Restoration of an Old Ithaca Model 37-12 gauge

refinishing and action work is upcoming, just started this weekend so its most likely gonna take a few weeks to finish, she was in a pretty bad way metal wise....

All salvagable though. I think its gonna be a nice gun in the end. those 37's are awesome shotty's

I just started to polyurethane the stock last night so its not in the vids but its looks like a million bucks now....super shiny.

Re: Restoration of an Old Ithaca Model 37-12 gauge

honestly I was thinking of a semi gloss duracoat, Im afraid the pitting in the metal wont lend itself to blueing or parkerizing.

I havent made the decision yet, I need to bead blast the reciever and barrell to see the extent of the damage but at this point duracoat and durafill look like the likely candidates

Re: Restoration of an Old Ithaca Model 37-12 gauge

I feel that the Ithaca 37 is one of the Most UNDERRATED Shotguns of ALL Time! Quality, Classic, Design. Bottom Eject. Built Like A Mack Truck. Mossberg and Remington make Great Pump Guns - BUT
The Ithaca Model 37 Is Timeless!
Just My 0.2 cents

Re: Restoration of an Old Ithaca Model 37-12 gauge

The Ithaca M37 is a John Browning design. My dad bought me my first one in 1969. I bought one for each of my son's.

If my dad's M37 is an indicator they'll never wear out. Except for a couple of years in Vietnam he's hunted with his every year since 1953 (he traded a '37 Pontiac to a friend for it).

81Z4ME, I know what you mean! I have a 20 gauge handed down from my older brother. He got it from my late uncle.
Man If That Little Pump Gun Could Talk!!
It Will NEVER Be For Sale, as long, as I have a pulse!!!

Duracoat makes a product to fill in the pitting and smooth the metal out. Don't remember what it's called just yet but I would look into it before spraying.
