Rings and Bases for Hunting

I'm looking to try and keep my new hunting rifle as light as possible. Currently there is a NF Direct Mount on it and I've run in to the dreaded "can't move my scope back far enough" syndrome sometimes associated with integrated base/rings.

What base/rings might you recommend (30mm scope)? I'm thinking that perhaps a good two piece base would be best for keeping the weight down, but that may also limit how far forward/backward I can move my scope to get the proper eye relief because the rings can't be moved.

Badger 30mm Alloy Rings .823 Low = 3.9 oz
Badger 20 MOA All0y base = 2oz

5.9 oz is not too bad. I've heard that NF 30mm Low Ultralite rings are even lighter, but NF does not publish the weight of their rings and bases, and I've never weighed a pair.

I think some of the Talley one piece mounts (depending on rifle model) have options for extended forward and backward mounting room. In addition even the "normal" versions have the rings offset on the base so you can rotate them around to get more forward/backward room. About 1/2" if I remember right. If you get far enough back with that setup it would be as light as you'd get I'd think.

Outside of that I'd say any high quality alloy picatinny base/ring combo is going to be pretty close in weight.

Check these out. You'll get more functionality out of them (better grip, no damage to the scope and a crowned rail interface that gives you return to zero). The low's are under 4oz and the xtra-highs are 5oz. Plus these are made of 7075 T65 Aluminum - stronger and lighter than steel.
