Going from the peak to exterior wall is about 16’ with a 6/12 pitch. If I was to change angles at the exterior wall for a transition to a porch roof with a 2/12 pitch would that push snow off or create a snow/ice jam? Porch is 8’ wide. Metal roof. In the northeast region.

Most likely, yes, you'll get an ice dam. You can use peel and stick roofing membrane 5' to the interior side of a heated wall to try and mitigate, but it's still a risk.

Alternatively, using a roof ice-melt system could help.

Okay I’ll scrap that idea. What pitch would I need for that transition to not be a problem? I think the most I could do without dropping header too low would be a 3.5/12 pitch

The more you do, the better obviously. Snow naturally slides at 30-deg ,(7/12-pitch) or greater. Anything under that and it just creeps, and will create ice dams regardless. And if you're in a wind prone area, the wind can deposit more snow in that spot creating even more problems.

Middle of a field on a hill. The wind never stops but it only averages 8mph. So I should just scrap the porch idea off that side all together is what it sounds like..
