Just picked up an AXSA and looking for a good optic. Looking at the M7XI and the PMII- havent quite landed on the reticle but I am a fan of the MSR2 and the P5FL reticle for SB. Im kind of leaning towards finding a used M7XI at $2500ish and spending the rest on a can. Otherwise- I could spend about $3500 on the PMII- worth the coin + difference?

Both are dated. Of the two the S&B will have better glass. The Steiner M5 and M7 leave ALOT to be desired, there is a reason they are not popular at all.

In the 2.5-3.5k range you can get a used ZCO, NF 735, or even a tangent 525. The PM2 is a 25 year old design at this point. If your going to buy a S&B, go for the 6-36.

Thanks- Im looking at 6-36 SB in RAL 8000 with the P5FL reticle for $3300- Also looking at the M7XI 4-28 also in RAL8000 with the MSR2 reticle- for $2300- so I could save $1000 bucks technically- kind of caught up on what to do. M7 seems like the better buy for the money-

Both are excellent in their own right, depending on your priorities and preferences. I see you like the Lord’s reticle in MSR2 so congratulations are in order….

If you go with the S&B make sure to get the DT2+ turrets as they are by FAR the best option. Glass in Schmidt scopes is always very good so it’s a great option even if the design is older. I hear the new 6-36 is even better optically.

The M7 can be a very nice option but can have a wide variance in optical performance in my experience. I have several and a couple of them look excellent and a couple are not as good. Not worth paying full price for new but if purchased used for the price you mention, it will not restrict your shooting in the least.

I’ve had or currently own every scope considered mid tier and alpha class. I can honestly report NONE of them made me a better shooter, but some are more enjoyable to use than others.

I love the Tangent Theta and it is great in every way, except I wish they would put in the MSR2 reticle. No matter what, it seems to be a compromise at some juncture so I just pick my favorite features and go from there.

Thanks for the input! The SB Im looking at does have the DT2 turrets- it is the perfect. $3300 is a lot of coin- seems fair given that Eurooptic has one listed for $10K…. Im not kidding.
