i am at awe at some of the gear guys have on here. to say im on a budget is a huge understatement i currently shoot a howa var supreme in 308 and have very good results if i do my job it is a 1/2 moa gun at 100 with usa 175 smk. i am looking at jumping up so to say in features ie detachable mag aluminum bedded stock threaded barrel (hopefully a surefire break). im thinking of this savage 10fcp-sr, does anyone have one or have any suggestions. i will put my vortex viper 6-20 mil dot as i have no budget for more. one day i may sell my kidney to china for a night force. i am a vet and a deputy sheriff with 3 kids and a wife in a small town. my dept denied me the position of dept sniper team because im left handed and they didn't want to buy left handed gear. it sux but im trying my best to get better.

Savage 10FLCP-K has all the features you seek. Having tried the Accu-Stock, I would suggest that an aluminum stock would provide little, if any, advantage. The only real question would be about how well it handles issued ammo; and odds are it should perform well with it.

Re: savage 10 fcp-sr

I'm thinking for that price, you could put a decent stock on the howa, a cdi bottom metal inlet, true reciever and have an aftermarket barrel with brake installed.

There is nothing wrong with the savage, but you will have to run savage mags (they work very well). The Howa is a VERY well made action and you would probably end up with a more accurate rifle.

Re: savage 10 fcp-sr

While I can't fault good work on a rifle, I have some small issue with spending more money on the Howa to make it do what the Savage will do right O/O the box. When the time comes to sell, I suspect you'll get your money's worth from the Savage. I'm not so sure the Howa's extras will bring their value as readily.

My savage FCP-K with the vortex viper you are talking about. Great combination, except I had to slide the scope alllllllll the way back for proper eye relief(viper has short eye relief). I love everything about the rifle, and I'm sure you will as well.

Re: savage 10 fcp-sr

This is just a though… Your Howa shoots under 0.5 MOA. It’s a great shooter and you might not necessary get a better accuracy with a new Savage rifle. If you work on your loads and invest in some precision reloading tools, you might get even better groupings.

Re: savage 10 fcp-sr

I had a Howa 1500 in .300WM and HATED it. Horrible recoil and pencil barrel. My new Savage FCP-K is MOA with factory rounds and Im sure it will be sub half with handloads.

Re: savage 10 fcp-sr

I would NOT reccomend this rifle...........Poor Craftsmanship

After barrel break-in, I noticed scratches on the case sides. This scratch made unlocking the bolt quite hard. There are scratches on the bolt length and wear marks that rifles with 2000 rounds thru them do not have. The magazine is not securely captured in the mag well, and may be contributing to a rough bolt cycling action. The ejector is also dimpling the base of the cases. The magazine does not release with just the release button and requires that the mag be "jiggled" to get it out.The rifle was sent back to Savage once already, which was at my expense! The case scratching issue was minized but not elimated. The rifle is ready to be returned to Savage again, as soon as my local gun shop guy gets info from the savage rep. This is not my first Savage rifle.... but it may be my last!!!!

Re: savage 10 fcp-sr

sorry to hear that cuda i hope they get it fixed for you. i personally love my savage, its a 10fp in 223 i love the trigger and smooth action it shoots really good with 75grain bthp. just like everything else that is mass produced they cant make every single one perfect, everyonce in a while there will be a lemon.

Re: savage 10 fcp-sr

This thread's almost a year old...if you had something to say about your Savage, why not start a new one?

Especially given that it's your very first post here...

So for your first post you dig up a year-old thread to whine about the topic(rifle).
I pay special attention to those who sign up on forums just to piss and moan. Undoubtedly, they've tried everything to resolve their issue first, were kind and respectable to the store they bought the product from, and the same with the manufacturer.
It also goes without saying that the 'issue' they complain about is ALWAYS someone else's(the store, the manufacturer etc..) fault.
That this person took the time and effort to not only sign up on here to enlighten us, but to dig up and actually use his precious FIRST post to do so, clearly suggests that every word in his post should be treated as GOSPEL.
BTW...I saw this rifle sitting on the rack at Turner's last night, and my jaw dropped. Of course being Turner's, nobody behind the counter knew anything about it, which is why I'm here.
It's gotta nice twist for the 175's, and I see that barrel changes are easy.
I'm gonna go back tomorrow and snag one methinks.
