Savage 110FP action screw problem

Re: Savage 110FP action screw problem

This doesn't sound right. Are you using the correct size allen wrench? I can torque mine down past 50 inlbs with out any problems. If you are using the right size, try a different brand as yours might be made small on the tollerances. I've run into that problem with some torx bits.

Re: Savage 110FP action screw problem

Some cheaper hex bits have a convex nose on them, and a bit of a taper (Dodgy manufacturing). If you very carefully grind them flat so the end of the bit is square and sharp it makes a huge difference. I give them a tap to drive them in on a hex screw that I'm removing to seat them before I twist. Same after the screw is in, but not tight give it a tap with almost anything just to set the bit.

I had my action screws strip from savage too. they make them out of really crappy material. i ordered two new sets direct from savage, and bought a set of metric wrenches. the metric ones fit more snugly in the screw making it harder to strip them out

Re: Savage 110FP action screw problem

I too had a bad action screw on a 110 HS Precision rifle. It would strip the wrench as soon as any torque was applied. I called Savage and they sent me a replacement screw free of charge. They did ask for the serial number of the rifle, make sure you have that on hand.
